Ahzek Ahriman has the unique distinction of being both the first and last Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons, and is the most gifted mystic among their already-formidable psyker corps. A respected commander even before his Legion’s reunion with its missing Primarch, Ahriman’s keen intelligence and talent in warpcraft soon made him Magnus’ foremost apprentice, but his greatest strength is his indefatigable will. Ultimately, this determination would see him play a pivotal role in the Burning of Prospero – and walk strange and terrible paths long after the close of the Horus Heresy.

After 54 books, the bestselling series is finally drawing to a close with a long-awaited story – the fall of the Death Guard into Nurgle’s embrace as they make their way to start the Siege of Terra. This legendary tale of treachery and heroism is brought to vibrant life with over one hundred magnificent sculpted plastic playing pieces. The stunning three-dimensional map of Terra brilliantly portrays the landscape immediately surrounding the Imperial Palace, from the magma-filled crevasses to the fortifications that offer the Imperial player protection against both enemy assault and orbital bombardments. [1] The Horus Heresy was truly set in motion when Warmaster Horus suffered a grievous injury at the hands of the possessed Eugen Temba, who wielded the stolen Anathame on the ill-fated moon of Davin, a place tainted by the corrupting influence of the Chaos God Nurgle. Despite Horus’ superhuman immune system and the earnest efforts of the Sons of Horus’ most skilled apothecaries, the wound inflicted by the accursed blade refused to heal. In a desperate attempt to find a remedy, the Mournival transported Horus to the Davinite Serpent Lodge, believing it held the key to his recovery. Unbeknownst to all parties involved, Erebus and the Word Bearers had masterminded the events on Davin, orchestrating them in secret. The remaining Legions—the Raven Guard, Salamanders, Iron Hands, and Space Wolves- remained resolutely loyal to the Emperor, though they would all pay a heavy price in the battles that lay ahead. Beyond the Legions, Horus had already managed to sway Adept Regulus by promising the deployment of STCs acquired during the war against the Auretian Technocracy, securing the support of the Adeptus Mechanicusfor the Warmaster’s cause. Additionally, he had corrupted a significant portion of the Imperial Army and Navy to bolster his forces. Burning Of Prospero (004.M31) Horus, already harbouring deep-seated jealousy and resentment towards his father, the Emperor, readily embraced these false visions. He was among those who dreaded the prospect of a peace settlement that would seemingly squander their hard-fought achievements in favour of weaker individuals, while his legions were cast aside as mere peacekeepers. Thus, Horus proved all too susceptible to the Ruinous Powers’ deceptive promises of an Emperor seeking to ascend to godhood at Horus’ expense. The 10 Terminators in Age of Darkness, are clad in Cataphractii armour (named for the Cataphracts, the Persian heavily armoured cavalry of ancient times). This armour provides an unparalleled level of protection at the expense of speed of movement. One per unit of 10 can be built as a Sergeant with Plasma pistol and Power Sword. The Sword can be exchaged for a Power Fist or Lightning Claw and he can carry Melta bombs. Moreover, the Heresy’s catalyst can be attributed to the Emperor’s disciplinary actions against Lorgar and the Word Bearers, setting in motion the chain of events that led to the Heresy itself. Following a public humiliation and severe reprimand of Lorgar and his entire Legion, during which they were compelled to kneel before the Emperor for propagating the belief in his divinity, the devout Word Bearers felt a profound sense of betrayal. Desperate to find a higher power to venerate, they embarked on a quest to seek any formidable force within the universe. This quest eventually led Lorgar and his Legion into the depths of the Eye of Terror, where they pledged their allegiance to the Chaos forces and began plotting against the Emperor. Thus, in secret, the Word Bearers became the first Chaos Space Marines. Covertly scheming to wage war against the Emperor, they clandestinely established Warrior Lodges, overseen by their Chaplains, within the ranks of the other Astartes Legions. While appearing innocuous initially, many of these lodges would later evolve into breeding grounds of support for Horus’ rebellion in the impending conflict. In the year 0014.M31, on the first day of Primus, Horus’ armada finally reached the Sol System. During the intense final phase of the Solar War, the traitors wrested control of the Solar System from loyalist forces, despite Rogal Dorn’s best efforts to stall until reinforcements arrived from Roboute Guilliman and Lion El’Jonson. Once within range of Terra, Horus and his forces devastated Luna’s naval bases and, within thirty days, overwhelmed the Terran system’s defences. Terra endured bombardment and devastation. The corrupted Astartes from the Sons of Horus, Death Guard, World Eaters, Emperor’s Children, Iron Warriors, Thousand Sons, Word Bearers, and Night Lords eventually landed on Terra, facing fierce resistance from defenders led by the Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, and White Scars. Vast numbers of traitor Imperial Army, Dark Mechanicum, Chaos Cultists, and Daemonic forces joined the traitor Astartesin the assault on Terra. The loyalists were outnumbered, and the battle for Terra escalated into a siege of the Imperial Palace.

A group of loyalists, led by Captain Garro of the Death Guard, managed to escape the fleet orbiting Isstvan III aboard the heavily damaged Eisenstein. Their desperate flight aimed to reach Terra and warn the Emperor of the treacherous turn of events.

Rules for the five modes of play: Narrative Play, Campaign Play, Open Play, Team Play, and Matched Play So yes, Horus Heresy has a really strong theme and the game utilizes it quite well. One of the things that helps tie the theme to the game is Horus Heresy’s fantastic components. From the excellently sculpted minis to the very well laid out 3d board, Horus Heresy is just a joy to behold. Even the cards are both very functional and include thematic Warhammer artwork. These two elements combined help to provide a rich game play experience for Horus Heresy. A players action cards decide which units they can activate and what they do.

Horus Heresy may self style itself the Age of Darkness but I feel this set ushers in an era of fun and entertainment. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed building my models and seeing them arrayed on the battlefield and I haven’t even started the joy of painting them all yet or adding the transfers. I treasure the book and find myself absently stroking it at times and I look forward to many battles against the Legions of the Heretics. Horus has triumphed. His fleet nears Terra and the Throne of his hated father. Many have fallen to bring this moment about, their tales – collected here – are the ashes upon which the Heresy was born and prospered. The titanic Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness boxed set contains a treasure trove of content, from a massive rulebook detailing the setting and stories of the Horus Heresy, as well as gorgeous photography and art, and all the core rules you need to play the game. The box also contains 54 Citadel miniatures – including a massive Spartan Assault Tank and a host of MKVI ‘Corvus Armour’ Tactical Marines – allowing you to build two opposing forces for out-of-the-box play, or construct a huge Legion force all your own. Alongside all of this, you’ll get all the game accessories and rules reference materials you need to immerse yourself in the worlds of the Age of Darkness.By this time, Horus’ armada had reached the Sol System and sought to advance toward the Imperium’s Throneworld. To achieve this, they needed to capture the strategically vital Beta-Garmon Cluster. The ensuing Battle of Beta-Garmon, one of the Heresy’s largest conflicts, resulted in massive casualties on both sides. Titan Legionssuffered particularly heavy losses, earning the battle the moniker “Titandeath.” Ultimately, Horus’ forces emerged victorious, even though the Warmaster himself succumbed to wounds inflicted by Leman Russ during the Battle of Trisolian. The Lion’s Purge (012-013.M31) Horus Heresy is a 2 player, card drive war game that plays in about 2-3 hours. Game Overview: Horus Heresy comes with some fantastic components and tons of well sculpted minis. While the Heresy was sparked by a conspiracy orchestrated by the Chaos forces, it was further fuelled by several contributing factors that drove numerous Legio Astartestowards rebellion. Among these factors, the foremost was the Emperor’s unexpected return to Terra and his subsequent seclusion as he immersed himself in a secretive project, which he withheld from his Primarchs, including his beloved son Horus, who held the title of Warmaster. This apparent abandonment of the Great Crusade, coupled with the Emperor’s reluctance to confide in his own sons, sowed seeds of mistrust, resentment, and disappointment among many of the Primarchs towards their father.

The mouldings are all crisp and clear of flash. GW plastic is easy to work with for tidying up sprue marks etc. The level of detail is intense. Assembly is straightforward and the parts all fit together really well. I’ve built a lot of plastic kits: German, Japanese, American and these are the most satisfying. To start the game, players get a few options for which scenario they want to play. The first scenario is probably the one most players will opt for though. Brother Against Brother pits Horus in a battle to kill the Emperor. Simple Enough. After the scenario is chosen and the game setup (this takes a bit of time), the players are ready to begin. Horus Heresy seeks to recreate the epic battle for Terra from the Warhammer 40k book series of the same name. One player takes on the forces of the traitor Horus while the other player must defend the Emperor from Horus’s treachery. Does Horus Heresy do justice to this great book series or should it be banished to the warp? Read on to find out!Speaking of units, Horus Heresy comes with a ton of plastic miniatures. Players get to control troops ranging from Space Marines to the huge mechanical Titans. I also liked that each faction has their own somewhat unique looking minis in various colors. Once the game is setup and in progress, it’s hard not to admire the sheer scale of Horus Hersey The hull-mounted weapon, which also moves, can be twin-linked heavy bolter, heavy flamer or lascannon. Whilst I always have a problem with GW vehicles having too high a profile making them easy targets there’s no doubting this is an impressive looking machine. For me doors to unload troops should be at the rear. This gives disembarkees protection from enemy fire. Also a door at the front presents an armour weak spot just where you don’t want it!
