When your bike arrives final assembly will be required. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. Our step by step instructional video can be found here as well as our easy to follow instructions. Otherwise, press once to power up, then subsequent single prods change mode, double for boost. Depress the button for a few seconds to switch to the flashing modes.

The Rigel has a wide beam spread with a long throw, which is great for fireroad blasting and high-speed, technical trails that aren’t too winding.Four of the light’s six LEDs have a narrow-angle – spotlight – lens, while the two outermost bulbs on the lower row have a wide-angle lens, designed to flood light across the trail. DF stands for Day Flash and it is a double shot of 400 lumens, plenty bright enough for you to be noticed on a sunny day as you filter through traffic. Despite the Moon Meteor Storm Pro feeling much brighter than its claimed lumen output, the beam’s pattern is especially focused even when it’s operating in the mixed beam mode. This unit's run times all matched the claims, even in the recent cold weather. At three hours on the 700 lumen setting, you can get in some decent miles after work, though the 1000 lumens might be needed in darker lanes.

I was a little sceptical of the 120-lumen default setting – yes, it's good enough for shared use town paths perhaps, and useful for reading road signs, rummaging in panniers and tending to a mechanical, but around town I felt more comfortable with the 200-lumen Steady Flash. The forward projection is far enough away to not have a noticeable cut-off point, while peripheral illumination has a gradual fade, rather than a defined line between light and dark. I found all the flash modes really effective. The Flash 1 and Steady Flash certainly grab the attention of other roads users in low light, while the mode designated solely for day use lasts 61 hours (on the default 400 lumen setting). That's a great duration for a striking, 'be-seen' mode.

For instance, 1,500 lumens is overkill for a lot of road conditions, so you could tweak the brightest mode down to, say, 1,000 lumens for most rides, or even 800 lumens – almost doubling your battery life. You can actually take the brightness down to a minimum of just 20 lumens, which'll give you up to 56 hours' burn-time. A few of our other favourites that we spotted when researching Moon Vortex Pro Front Light included, The first thing is material. Looking at what Moon Vortex Pro Front Light is made of will give you a really good idea of the quality overall. Take a look at the specs above and you should be able to see the material. It’s then up to you to decide if it meets your expectation. It's not perfect for road use where a wider, flatter beam is better to reduce the chances of dazzling oncoming traffic, but angled down I didn't seem to irritate anyone while still getting the light shining up the road. You need to have a bit of common sense and courtesy with the lumen output too. Okay, on its 450 lumens high constant setting, battery life is nothing to shout about. The 1.5hr run-time was sufficient to get me home easily, even after riding to work with the light flashing, but chances are you'll have to remember to charge it between rides. If you use the beam comparison engine above you'll see how much more effective the Ravemen is at 1,600 lumens compared with the Moon at 1,500 lumens. As with the Pro, it does work to a degree, cutting off the upper light a bit, but there is still plenty heading up into the trees.
