It's hard to review this one without comparing it to the other iconic, polarising powerhouse of the '90s, Angel.

In 2017, after 20 years of success, Mon Premier Parfum begins its most exciting period, that of its metamorphosis, affirmation, and challenges. I wanted so badly to love this neo-classic perfume with it's cult-like following, but I just cannot.

I wore it a lot, then ended up selling it online, still quite full, because it was proving to be the neverending bottle.

Its box lists Parfums Lolita Lempicka and the short list of ingredients before some of the allergens had to be disclosed. The dry down reveals some slight powderiness and sweetness, but I can't distinguish iris and orris or vanilla and praline, respectively. I usually love unique fragrances that incorporate underutilized notes – I adore the Hermès Un Jardin collection, Demeter Dirt, Byredo Gypsy Water, Gap Grass – but to me Lolita Lempicka smells like moldy lawn clippings sitting in a black plastic yardwaste bag, emphasis on the plastic. It is a little similar to Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire, but the latter is more cherry-forward, less interesting and less refined than Lolita.

This is my second time sampling and I like it much more this time, I'm actually surprised at how well the cherry note pops out on this one, I don't remember it at all last time.

In an eco-friendly approach, Mon Eau meets its commitment to the respect and protection of the environment and animals by being labeled vegan " One Voice ». I do pick up violets, licorice, cherry, and maybe a bit of an almond or amaretto scent that some have mentioned, and also a little musk. the toffee-like praline that finally appears when the fragrance is warmed by breath or sweat is almost like a candy lure to draw you into an enchanted woodland, where you will be irretrievably lost.As an elder millennial, it's very nostalgic for me because it was the absolute rage in the 2006-2008 era. Whoever was in charge of the reform, their hands were probably tied, but I'm just hear to mourn what this used to be. She also invited many actresses to wear her creations at fashion shows, such as Diane Kruger, Clotilde Courau, Élodie Bouchez, Emmanuelle Seigner, Laetitia Casta, Florence Thomassin, Marine Delterme, Valérie Kaprisky, Charlotte Valandrey, and Geraldine Pailhas.

It also manages not to be an Angel clone even though it came out around the same time, but is completely its own thing. when i spray it on it's all salty liquorice and cherry for a couple of minutes, then the liquorice recedes and lets a dry, rustling ivy leaf note come to the forefront. I feel deeply connected to her in all the the ways that matter and to say it is my favorite smell in the world would be an understatement. I also get why people compare it to Guerlain La petit Robe Noir(another perfume which I have and like, but not love). There isn't much to add that hasn't already been said (and much more eloquently than I'm capable), particularly as far as the technical aspects of it, but LL is a one-of-a-kind and magical star anise-violet-cherry-vanilla-musk dream.
