However, while the improvements LG has brought to the OLED65G3's pictures are unequivocally outstanding, the same can't be said of its sound system. Overall, connecting devices to the model was easy. And although my old hi-fi Cambridge Audio amp and speakers did not connect because it had an outdated connection cord, I found I didn’t mind as much. This new panel doesn’t just intend to break through the brightness ceiling that’s hampered OLED TVs, but smash through it, competing with Samsung’s QD-OLED technology. Availability That 70% figure is compared to traditional OLED as used in the LG B3 – the screens LG was putting in flagship TVs about 3 years ago – so it’s not quite as drastic as it sounds. But given OLED’s notoriously limited brightness, any ground gained on this front is welcomed. Motion judder with 24p film sources can sometimes look a touch hard-edged on the OLED65G3 without using any of the provided motion processing options - a result of the extra brightness making juddering edges look more pronounced. LG's Cinematic Movement processing option, though, now delivers an excellent way of reducing 24p judder without making the picture look forced or uncinematic.

LG G3 OLED review: An early contender for TV of the year LG G3 OLED review: An early contender for TV of the year

This TV was made to be wall-mounted, to start; while LG has ditched the ‘Gallery Series’ naming convention from last year’s model, this is still a screen designed to be displayed proudly, like a painting in the Louvre. We test every television we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product. It’s worth noting that both the MZ2000 and OLED+908 are unlikely to be available until the autumn, by which time the LG G3 will probably have seen some form of discount to make it a more appealing value-for-money proposition. LG G3 OLED review: Design, connections and control After wrestling with a 65-inch sized G3 OLED to get it upstairs and set up, it definitely brightened up the entire room with its stunning picture display. After all, the TV itself is well designed and considered, with a thin profile and small bezel. Colours also appeared more vibrant when watching WCG (wide colour gamut) content thanks to a combination of the higher brightness and LG’s processing, although QD-OLED TVs still have the upper hand in outright colour luminance due to their RGB subpixel make-up as opposed to WRGB, which results in some colour dilution. The built-in sound quality of the LG G3 is surprisingly good for a TV. While (of course) connecting one of the best soundbars would be even more immersive, I found that turning on the AI Sound Pro enhanced the audio quality significantly. While LG’s webOS interface remains our favourite among various TV brands when it comes to ease of use and intuitiveness, especially in combination with the aforementioned Magic Remote, the company’s decision to move towards a full-screen experience last year didn’t go down well with some viewers. Although its higher peak brightness has rightly hogged the limelight, the increased light scattering from MLA brings another key benefit, virtually eradicating the off-axis pink tint and luminance drop normally seen on WRGB OLED panels, resulting in some of the widest viewing angles seen on a consumer OLED TV.

LG has changed the polariser set up on the OLED65G3 too, which means that the much brighter pictures have even more impact because they're no longer as affected by ambient light reflections as they have been previously. WebOS 23 also brings picture personalisation using deep learning technology to the LG G3. After guiding users through a series of on-screen images using the “Personalised Picture Wizard” to determine their preferences, this advanced feature analyses the content being displayed and optimises the picture settings accordingly, delivering image quality tailored to the specific content and user.Project Ara was the best smartphone idea you never got to try - here's why it deserves a second chance An external soundbar – perhaps one of the latest LG models to take advantage of the G3’s new WOW Orchestra feature – or home theatre system is recommended to complement the TV’s outstanding picture quality. WOW Orchestra combines the TV speaker sound with a compatible LG soundbar to generate a synchronised output that’s more powerful and immersive yet harmoniously balanced. The Q-card list has been redesigned – smaller, and no longer featuring explanations. That’s brought the app row further up the screen and made room for a big ‘Now Trending’ bar, which I do find a little intrusive given that it is promoting all sorts of stuff (Shop Time?) but does at least have a shortcut to the last used input. LG states that this is largely down to improvements made to its colour processing - though I guess it's also true that the way MLA works means there isn’t actually much more brightness being produced by the OLED pixels than there was before. The brightness increase is predominantly down to the light the OLEDs being produced emerging through the screen more efficiently. The beauty of this approach to bolstering OLED brightness is that it doesn't depend on more power (in fact, the G3 runs slightly more efficiently than 2022's G2 in most configurations) - something which should also help limit the G3's susceptibility to screen burn.
