These are personal opinions, and I’m hoping Asia releases and blows all of these doubts or questions out of the water. Wingspan’s solo mode isn’t massively dissimilar to its main mode for the player. You still collect birds, lay eggs and strive for personal and public goals. Set up for the player for is no different to the standard game. You still need to have a mat, action cubes, private goals, a starting hand and all the usual resources to hand. There are also two reference cards available for players regarding the solo mode and an end of round goal card for the automa. The automa player however requires much, much less. In addition to the new bird cards, Wingspan Asia also includes new player mats, dice, and food tokens. These components add new layers of strategy and tactics to the game, as players must balance their bird population with the available food supply and make strategic decisions about which birds to play and when. For his birthday we adopted a Kakapo from the New Zealand Department of Conservation and so our son and Wingspan will have motivated us to help with the conservation of this special bird. If you were just to play with with “no nectar on the dice”, the only way to play a Rainbow Lorikeet would be trading 2 food to pay for the one impossible to get nectar. I suspect you would want to also play with no nectar bonuses in that case.

The game features 95 new bird cards, each with unique abilities and traits. The artwork on these cards is as breathtaking as ever, and each card comes with a detailed description of the bird's habitat, diet, and behavior. The cards are divided into four new habitats: Wetlands, Forests, Grasslands, and Himalayas, each with its own set of birds and rules. Other people play “with nectar, but no nectar bonuses”. That might be a better option if you want to keep the Rainbow Lorikeet, etc. If 3 players had tied for first place, they would split the points for first, second and third place. Chris: You’re correct that Christine selected the fonts in Wingspan. I think she chose the fonts because she thought they were the best fit for the game, but beyond that I don’t know. Wingspan Asia is the latest expansion to the popular board game Wingspan, which is known for its stunning artwork, immersive gameplay, and bird-watching theme. In this expansion, players get to discover the diverse birdlife of Asia, including birds from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. It could be! It just depends on a few factors, regardless of age. Wingspan is not extremely complicated, but could feel very, very new if you haven’t played modern board games. Having a good teacher or a healthy dose of perseverance can help the learning process (plus some teaching videos on YouTube can be invaluable). It also helps to have an interest in the theme. But who doesn’t like birds. :) Yellow Bittern is an interesting new card drawing bird. It only lets you draw the middle card from the bird tray. I’m a little surprised that this bird is worth zero points. The Wetlands restriction on this bird feels kind of awkward. This isn’t the best bird to play in the first column of your Wetlands to get your card drawing started, but that’s probably the best position for this bird to get the most out of its power. If this bird is your only Wetlands bird by round two and you laid two eggs with its power at the end of round one, you’ve got some extra eggs to discard for extra cards with future Draw Cards actions.

Wingspan Asia also includes new end-of-round goals, which add variety and replayability to the game. These goals can range from having the most birds of a certain type to having the most eggs in your bird population. The new goals ensure that no two games of Wingspan Asia will ever be the same, and players must adapt their strategies accordingly. Hey guys! First of all: this game is AWESOME. I played it well over 30 times (including digital version), and I like how this game has basically 4 actions to choose from but complexity ramps up drastically as you populating your player mat. A number of birds (like the Song Sparrow) have a brown power that lets you move them to another habitat if it is to the right of all the birds in its original habitat: “WHEN ACTIVATED: if this bird is to the right of all other birds in it’s habitat, you may move it to another habitat.”From there you follow the rules on the card for the difficulty level you are playing, as it relates to the point value on the cards. So, for the ‘Rare Species Lister’ if you are playing ‘Eaglet’ difficulty, you look at the three birds on display, take all that are worth 4, 5, or 6 points, give Automa the lowest valued one, and discard the rest. The brown power for the hermit thrush says…players with the fewest forest birds gain 1 food from bird feeder. What do you do if there is a tie? I think that Wingspan Asia is a core set in spirit, even if Stonemaier Games doesn’t want to call it that. You don’t actually need core Wingspan to play it (a feature of a new core set), but it also expands what core Wingspan can do, and you actually need it to play certain ways (a feature of an expansion). Asia is both an expansion for the base game AND a standalone 2-player game. If you only have Asia, you are limited to 2 players. If you have Asia plus the original, you can play with 2-7 players instead of the 2-5 that the original allows.

If the round goal is “Bird cards in the Water” and you have 5 birds there and one is the Cetti’s Warbler does this mean you double her for a total of 6? It seems to me this can’t be right as the maximum is 5… Hi. If you will make any future Southamerican Expansion, I would recommend some of the following birds, with unique type of species, special habitats and not present in previous expansions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_birds_of_Peru A terrible accident happened the other day as coffee was spilled on the table in the middle of a game! As a result of that unfortunately some cards got damage. I do sleeve my cards (well duh, I’m not a savage) so most of the cards were unharmed. Is there a way for me to replace my damage cards without having to buy a whole new set?

Thank you Elizabeth and the stonemaier team! After spotting the wingspan game for the first time in a game shop in the seaside town of Bridlington – UK 2022 we decided to get it for Christmas. We always play games as a family and are big bird lovers too so this was ideal and as a family we have decided that it’s the best game we have ever played!
