The ADO Air also comes with a carbon belt drive and an exposed derailleur. Two 20 x 1.75 all-season tyres with a 20-inch diameter are mounted on the bike’s wheels. To provide stopping force, the ADO Air’s front and rear hydraulic single-piston disc brake callipers are connected to matched 160mm cross-drilled brake rotors. Pedalling more and utilising the engine-less would obviously increase battery life. In contrast, additional motors need more power, yet the ADO Air does not appear to be consuming battery life. The bicycle can be folded in half and weighs about 16 kg (35.2 lbs). The bike has a range of up to 100 km (62 miles) on a single charge thanks to a 37 Nm motor and a 36 V battery. The Air also includes an inbuilt IPS display and a remote control app. The ultra-light electric bike, which has an aluminium frame and weighs only 16 kg (35.2 lbs), can be folded in half for storage or transit. The bicycle has a carbon belt that should be more efficient and require less maintenance than a chain replacement.

My test bike also came with peculiar optional mudguards that didn’t look too promising. In the interests of thorough testing, I put them on and rode around in the rain and duly discovered that the rear one in particular had indeed been designed by someone who was not prioritising guarding me from mud. I bought the ADO Air 20 ebike for me and my wife and so far we have driven +-120km each. We love them! The IPS colour display is really clear and easy to read in bright light and has an IPX7 rating, meaning it can be submerged up to 1 metre in water for 30 minutes?! The front cables are nicely joined together, but ADO finally opted to run the wires through the bike’s frame. You must be careful when folding the head tube since these exposed cables might catch on the frame. ADO Air: Driving and Motoring The Air is however unquestionably built for flat terrain. In a sense that’s fair enough in that it’s clearly being sold as a city bike. But you know what? Some cities have hills in them. Some have very big hills. The Air’s greatest failing is that hills don’t even need to be particularly big to get the better of it.The bike also includes a front headlight, and a rear taillight. On the left side of the adjustable in-height front handlebar, next to the LED display and the rear brake lever, are the controls for these parts. The front brake lever, the throttle thumb pad, and an in-line gear indicator are all located on the right side. The three assistance levels are nicely calibrated too. The manual suggests they cut out at different speeds, but I didn’t find that to be the case. Even in level one, the motor contributed all the way up to 25km/h – it just wasn’t doing quite as much as in either of the two higher levels. Here at ebiketips we tend to think that’s a better way of setting up an e-bike than having lower assistance levels that are only there for riding at 15km/h or whatever. As well as that, the single speed carbon belt drive means no rusty chains and a claimed maintenance free ride for up to 30,000km. That said, this isn’t necessarily poor. In fact given the bike clearly isn’t made for long, leisurely jaunts through the countryside, the range seems perfectly adequate. Indeed a large proportion of folding e-bikes will have smaller batteries. Value

It also has a handy little feature to help you wheel it about. Simply roll the bike on its wheels and hold down the minus button and it gives you some assistance – so no need for carrying. Okay, it’s not a mid-motor e-MTB, it’s a single-speed city bike – but heavier riders in particular might find they’re applying the label ‘challenging’ to rather more terrain than they anticipated. To recharge the bike’s battery, you must connect it to the included AC adaptor. The battery charges completely in around seven hours, and according to ADO, the bike has a range of 80 to 100 miles when used as a moped. The maximum speed of the electric bike is 25 kph (15.5 mph). During this journey, I would estimate that I pedalled for around 30% of the time, with the ADO Air’s engine doing the most of the effort. Because of this, I never got fatigued and didn’t have to exert myself much to climb hills. But it was not expected that the motor would have to be pushed up higher slopes. Despite its limitations, the ADO Air 20 certainly seems to have a niche here. It offers decent value and should prove a nice, useful, low maintenance folder for the right person.

You can follow this video to adjust to Pedal Assist Mode:https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=Z051hcSfHrM&feature=emb_logo" Riders on a short budget who want an exhilarating e-bike ride without the high price tag are lured by ADO Air. The torque sensor is great, the driving feels far more naturel then our cadence powered ebikes. With the previous ebikes i would slowly fall behind because of our weight difference (+-30 Kg). No more! We can drive next to each other and keep the same pacing effortlessly. ADO now offer multiple mudguard options as extras, at least one of which looks a good deal more functional. The ride As for the actual bike itself, the IPX 5 waterproof rating means it's water-resistant, rainproof, and splashproof... ideal for classic British weather."

Like many inexpensive ebikes in its class, the ADO Air includes a battery metre that provides inaccurate readings when the bike is under heavy load. For instance, the LED display showed that while rising, the battery life was around one segment lower than it had been while lying flat. Even though this typographical issue didn’t cause much of a problem, it’s something to bear in mind if you’re considering buying this product.
