We are UK owned and based. We do not answer to overseas owners or investors. We aim to be one of the very best employers to work for and we operate a strict 'family first' policy. For instance; we pay our staff for five days a week but only ask them to work four and a half. Friday lunchtime is time to go home and enjoy some family time. Plus, we give our employee's a day off on their birthday. Lots of sealife have gills that allow them to breathe underwater, apart from mammals who come to the surface to get some air. There are also animals who live on the seashore like crabs.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is located in the district of Bimini in the Bahamas, around 20 miles south of the Bimini islands. Although it is part of the Bahamas, Ocean Cay is actually much closer to Miami than it is to Grand Bahamas, Nassau and the other Bahamas islands. Using our Under the Sea Word Mat with handy illustrations of each marine word, they can do other ocean activities like an I Spy challenge, or a Counting and Matching Puzzle. They could write a story about sea creatures using their new vocabulary in action. There are of course many mats available from a variety of sources. Not all are made in the UK though. Our recycled, washable doormats mats are made by the UK's leading doormat manufacturer who are the only UK authorised manufacturer of ECONYL® based domestic doormats. There are others who will import product but we believe in keeping everything we do within the UK. We do not use cotton, even recycled cotton, as this uses bleaches and gallons of water to make it a viable product. Around 20,000 litres of water is required to produce a single cotton T-shirt! I have worked in the textile industry for over 30 years, after gaining an HND in Fashion Design. I began my career in the fashion industry with Courtaulds then moving into interiors, specifically, floor coverings. I joined James Turtle at The Turtle Mat Company in 2002 after gaining a masters degree in Design Studies. I worked on various projects including designing and launching their range of Cotton Turtle mat design mats which have gone on to great success building the company into a multi million pound concern. Following the sale of Turtle Mat to a large American corporate I moved on and have now joined Atlantic Mats. We are passionate about preserving our marine environment and have teamed up with Healthy Seas. We donate a percentage of the sales from every Ocean Mat doormat to support the work they do in rescuing ghost fishing nets and plastics found in our seas.
