Commercial radios like those made by Motorola and Hytera don't have this feature at all, except in the case of the TYT MD-380 which had unofficial firmware made that does support this. While that won't get you located and prosecuted system engineers do talk to each other and if they notice a pattern of it, systems you haven't even touched in the area can end up suddenly getting locked down. It does have a number of issues which I have detailed in this review, so whether this radio is suitable for you really depends on whether the combination of problems it has would affect you too much. I suppose if I were a Facebook member, I could have received the solution quickly by posting my HD-1 reception problem on the Retevis support page. A lot of users complained that the audio on the HD1 would go very tinny sounding after a few minutes of use in certain conditions.

The radio doesn’t seem to have any automatic gain control, so you do have to speak fairly close to the microphone, but once you get used to talking at the right distance from the microphone it sounds just as good as any other DMR radio. I did an audio test video with a comparison between the HD1 and MD-380, if you want to hear what it sounds like in action. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. both versions use specific DFU protocol as mentioned above, however it is known, so it is probably not a big issue itself (but CPS sources are not available to add it). Let me preface this initial review by saying I have owned the HD1 for only a few weeks, but I feel I have learned enough about it to give an honest opinion. There's a comparison of DMR radios on my blog, which shows which radios have which type of receiver. It would be entirely possible to set the radio up and start using DMR without ever connecting this radio to a computer, although you would have to go without any firmware updates, or updates to the user database.

The microphone on the radio works very well and the people that I have spoken to have said my audio is very clear and some of the best they have heard.

Using the HD1 I get very good audio reports whether transmitting DMR through my hotspot or transmitting FM through the local repeater. There are a few other radios on the market now with this feature though, so don't think that the HD1 is the only radio that has it. I have been using Motorola radios for forty years and have been waiting for a Ham friendly high build quality non Motorola radio for many years. The one thing which would make the two versions of radio interesting is that the structure of the menus and firmware is (almost) identical in both radios, the codeplug and communication protocol is identical so it is possibly using the same codebase for building the firmware. Thanks for the tool information, unfortunately I am giving up on the V2 radio, as I have found out when trying to use it in real world conditions that it stops transmitting after 6 seconds when PTT is kept pushed even with all timeouts set to very high values or fully disabled (and VFO nor full reset will help with that).

The HD1 does have encryption, but it doesn’t work with any other DMR radios out there, so you have to have two HD1s to use encryption. Code plugs are a challenge for anyone new to DMR; fortunately this radio has a big following and a very helpful Facebook group that is actively monitored by the Ailunce English speaking staff in China. This is useful in amateur radio because you should always check that nobody is already using the timeslot you want to use on the repeater before transmitting. A few people asked me about programming this radio, from the front panel and on the computer software. The radio is rated as water and dust proof to IP67, which means you should be able to submerse it in water and it'll still work fine. I bought two of these to use to scan my local law enforcement frequencies and also use as a communication method with other people like my employees as I do hold an Industrial Business Pool license to operate these in the business band and the fact that these are also FCC certified for that given that you set it up correctly.

Being able to use both bands is essential for me as we operate around buildings and in cities as well as straight line of sight on highways and whatnot. This solution enabled a quick expansion of the communication system, remote management, sending SMS messages, GPS position, telemetry and encryption. We will send a confirmation code to your mobile phone to verify that your contact details are correct. The backlight has an ‘always on’ setting that has very little impact on battery drain from my experience. So, given that you received a working unit, one might be inclined to think that this is actually a good radio.I was a little disappointed Chirp and Repeaterbook can’t be used to load repeater frequencies into the HD1 like with the Baofeng and other radios. DMR Compatibility: Compatible with Motorola Tier I and Tier II, as well as ETSI digital protocols TS 102 361-1, -2, -3. This being said, 99% of the outdoor activities do not require a "submarine", but a device that could be charged from any pocket power bank or, in "civilization" any usb port available. Other reviewers go into more detail on why this particular DMR radio is so good so I won't repeat their comments. On the TYT MD-380 with TyMD380Tools firmware, you can very quickly and easily type in any talkgroup and start transmitting within a few seconds.
