Through this unique lens, Steiner guides readers on the thrilling rollercoaster of life at the heart of high-stakes motor racing. Instead of the traditional biographies that we've seen before from technical directors and principals which span an entire career, Steiner chronicles the events and difficulties of the 2022 season.

From Formula 1 to MotoGP we report straight from the paddock because we love our sport, just like you. Steiner not only describes his current job as the team principal of Haas F1 but his time in Rally and NASCAR and even how his current team was founded, as well.Even those who have never watched the show (like Steiner himself, or so he claims) will warm to the engaging boss of Haas. Once Mazepin has been dealt with, the book moves on to what becomes the overriding theme: Mick Schumacher. If there is one adjective that sums up Guenther Steiner’s new autobiography entitled ‘Surviving to Drive’, it is straight-talking.

The book promises to be “uncompromising and searingly honest, told in Steiner’s inimitable style” and give fans a look at the inner-workings of an F1 team from the view of a team principal. Steiner maintains his innocence throughout, instead taking aim at the German media and Ralf Schumacher who is referred to only as “Mick’s Uncle”, making him into F1’s version of Voldemort.

A hugely entertaining access-all-areas account of a year inside Formula 1, from Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner, star of Drive to Survive, one of the most successful Netflix series of all time. The decision to not renew Schumacher’s contract is contained to a single page with Steiner insisting that it was not solely due to the expensive crashes, but instead a desire to have tried and tested experience in the seat in the form of Nico Hülkenberg. Packed full of twists and turns, from hiring and firing drivers, balancing books, pre-season preparations, the design, launch and testing of a car – and of course, the race calendar itself – this is the first time that an F1 team has allowed an acting team principal to tell the full story of a whole season. After getting an insight to how much can go wrong behind the scenes really opened my eyes and the pressure the drivers and whole team deal with is immense. Na Surviving to drive ga je nog meer rooten voor het team van Haas – ik vond het al leuk als ze een goede race reden, maar nu helemaal.

I suppose it’s not really our business but just a little more and also I wish he spoke about more about his time at Jaguar and Red Bull. Even if you’re not heavily in to Formula 1, I still think this would be an interesting insight into how it all works and understand the struggles and challenges they face.

Yeah, Drive to Survive put him in front of people but his story reminded me that every team principle, technical director, all top dogs in the teams have an incredible backgrounds and all are there on merit. Funny, insightful, and great to get some behind the scenes from Guenther and Haas' POV of the 2022 season.

I would definitely read another if he did a diary for a different season in the future but would probably wait for it to come out in paperback. With their entry in the 2016 season, Haas became the first American constructor to compete in F1 in 30 years.

Alongside that Guenther tells a bit about him self, about how he got where he is right now, and about the team’s past. It provides insight about the season of a team (well, mid table team) and also it tells more about Guenther's past motorsports experience, which is massive. A poor race weekend is met with a diary entry filled with foks and s**ts while a good race is filled with the same expletives but with a different meaning. But Steiner’s thoughts will now be available for fans to read in the new book, published by Transworld and due for release next April.
