Description

The Creality CR-Scan 01 has both a stationary turntable and handheld mode. Much like the Revopoint POP 2, it isn’t designed for outdoor use. I own own the POP 2, and I was impressed by the many improvements the POP 2 has over the original Revopoint POP. Humanized software:Concise UI design, easy to operate during operation. Powerful modeling processing methods, automatic filling repair, automatic color repair, automatic substrate recognition, non-destructive mesh simplification, automatic smoothing and denoising, to ensure the scanning needs of various fields.

I like it. I don’t care about textures and that is why I did them last. For me, I am going to use the CR-Scan Lizard scanner for reverse engineering and the base model is what I would go with. Meaning scan the object then bring into Fusion 360 for a reference and digitally create the object. This is a really powerful tool in my opinion. I can accept a little bit of inaccuracies and correct anything critical by taking real-world measurements. The Revopoint POP 2 delivers precision up to 0.05 mm and a 0.15 mm point cloud distance. The Revopoint MINI has a precision of 0.02 mm alongside a point cloud distance of 0.05 mm. Turntable mode is suitable for 15 – 300 mm objects and will scan automatically. You can use the combination mode for larger objects up to 500 mm, where you put the object on the rotary table but hold the scanner in hand to scan. Creality says that the Lizard can do a freehand scan without glued-on index points. However, this is not really easy, and the same applies with but the Revopoint. With both of these scanners, you need a good deal of practice.I mostly use 3D scanners to create printable models. Sometimes, I use them to create a “design template” that I import into Fusion 360 to help with the design as a rough template. If a reasonable documentation and some fine-tuning of the operation follow, the software would actually be quite decent. However, we only have OBJ or STL as an output format. Creality indicates the PLY is possible for exporting the point cloud. However, I couldn’t find it. Pros & Cons of the Creality CRScan Lizard A faster and more versatile method is the projection of patterns consisting of many stripes at once, or of arbitrary fringes, as this allows for the acquisition of a multitude of samples simultaneously. Seen from different viewpoints, the pattern appears geometrically distorted due to the surface shape of the object. This entry-level Creality 3D scanner Lizard for consumers follows the CR Scan 01 — as an affordable option for users to digitalize objects. The new Lizard is smaller in size for better portability and feel with improved features such as accuracy up to 0.05 mm, and better handling of bright environments and dark objects. All that for less money than its predecessor, even. In contrast, the Lizard 3D scanner delivers even higher precision with its remarkable 0.05mm accuracy. This makes it an ideal choice for scanning small components or prototypes that demand intricate details. The Lizard also supports no-marker scanning, eliminating the need for additional markers to enhance accuracy. With its automated data processing capabilities, the Lizard simplifies post-processing, saving valuable time and effort.

Mount the scanner on the tripod and set it 300 mm (about one foot) from the turntable. The scanner only “sees” 400 mm from the lens, so make sure the immediate area behind the turntable is free of clutter. Place your item on the center of the turntable. Adjust the tripod so that scanner is pointing at the center of the turntable and most of your object is within view. I believe the scanner that Creality sent for review works – but its software currently does not work well a all. The demo copy often crashed and has many features without explanations. The scans I’ve shared on this review took several hours of trial and error in scanning and clean up efforts. In my testing, I found that the “perfect” object to scan is: about the size of a closed fist, a medium color (like blue), mostly convex, and with an opaque surface that isn’t too shiny. Creality CR-SCAN01 3D modeling scanner adopts intelligent large-scale alignment algorithm to ensure automatic matching without manual grid alignment, calibration, or the use of markers. The entire workflow is a bit easier for me with the Creality than with the Revopoint. When scanning with the turntable, the freehand scan also needs glued-on marking points and, above all, a lot of practice. In hindsight, I could have done some things differently. First I zoomed in on my camera app to try to capture as much data as possible when I was setting the camera up. I should have tried to keep it small. Potentially orienting the camera behind the scanner. I am not positive this will work though. The camera needs to be as close to the scanner’s camera as possible to avoid parallax errors. I could also reduce the output file size by reducing the quality in my phone’s camera app. Success Rate With all this in mind, the Creality CR-Scan 01 is an option for those who want the ability to scan large objects. Applications like complete body scanning, large artifact archiving, 3D design and modeling, and general 3D printing spring to mind.

Once you’re happy with your scan, export it as an .OBJ or .STL. You can take these files directly into Cura or PrusaSlicer and print them. Both scanners are compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, with the Ferret also extending support to Android devices. They offer output formats such as OBJ, STL, and PLY, facilitating seamless integration into 3D printing workflows. Performance and Accuracy On the other hand, the Revopoint MINI and Creality CR-Scan Lizard are geared towards small objects almost exclusively, thanks to their professional-grade precision and accuracy. Cameras POP 2 The Revopoint POP 2 includes a variety of modes: stationary, handheld, markers, features, face, body dark/hair, and head scanning. Outdoor scanning isn’t possible here as direct sunlight can distort the capture process.

What’s in the box?

Three scanning modes(Turntable mode, hand-held plus turntable mode,hand-held mode) are optional, which support scanning objects of different sizes and meet various scanning circumstances and requirements. CR-Scan Lizard is compatible with a portable charger, making the charging method flexible. I also like the Revopoint POP 2 for the stripped-down, functional approach. It works with little fuss, pivoting from stationary to handheld mode seamlessly. And everything runs off a simple USB connection. Scan when power on, automatic scanning without any marker. ¶ 11. Can I use a power bank to power the scanner? Additionally, the Ferret’s wide-range mode allows for scanning of large objects, while the high-accuracy mode guarantees precise scanning of medium-to-small-sized objects. With an accuracy of 0.1mm and a resolution of 0.16mm, the Ferret consistently produces high-quality scans with meticulous detail and precision.

The Ferret 3D scanner provides a high frame rate of up to 30fps, enabling seamless and rapid scanning. This means you can swiftly capture 3D point clouds and obtain precise results in a shorter timeframe. The Creality CR Scan Lizard is also much less sensitive to light conditions in the room. Creality says that the unit can scan outside in bright sunlight. I haven’t tried the latter, but I can confirm that the Lizard isn’t affected by room light conditions. Both versions have a brief manual, an unfamiliar operating concept and some omissions. For example, to delete points/parts of the mesh, you first have to assign a button in the settings yourself. Lighting does not matter to the CR-Scan Lizard as it scans with an infrared light beam. I scanned in normal indoor lighting without trouble. The scanner also works fine under studio lights or outside if you have a power source. Here are the steps you need to take to scan an object. Besides its scan modes, the Lizard also offers some improved scanning functions that should make it easier for users to achieve good results with minimal effort. Creality sent me the CR-Scan Lizard Luxury Combo. I tested both handheld and table scanning (both geometry and texture), but did not test the color texture feature enabled by smartphone pairing.
