The format of split POVs in the novel had me staying up late at night, desperate to read the next part of each protegonists' story. Paranoid that a side conversation is happening without her, Claire becomes slightly obsessed with making her voice heard again. Every relationship is complex and dynamic, showing the confusing and frustrating sides of friendships that can happen when people change or get lost.

I had the pleasure of seeing Sophie White speak at Andrea Mara’s book launch in May, and to say that she was warm, quick-witted and hilariously funny would be understating things. All 3 are completely loveable and once I got my head around whos-who (character names in chapter headings wouldn't go amiss! Entertaining, poignant, wise and funny; contemporary fiction at its sharpest and so gut punchingly relatable . She doesn’t want to be the party girl she was, but now she’s just a mum and girlfriend and completely alone. That being said, I think because of that many fiction books shy away from the issues which are very real and very common.

My Hot Friend centres on three women navigating friendship and all the complexities that come with it in this digital age.All three women find themselves skirting on the periphery of their once solid lifelong friends and romantic partners. Navigating friendships, relationships and life in a world where so much is on show, and being present is considered vital, leaves these three women struggling. It takes in so much more than I am describing here but manages to seamlessly weave everything together. Oh, and of course the star of the show was really Scout, the adorable teacup puppy turned honorary member of a slipknot tribute band. I genuinely don't think Sophie White can do any wrong when it comes to writing, which she's again in My Hot Friend.

All in all a good book and one I think that would be as entertaining as it is informative, which is a tricky balance to get right. Sophie captures mental illness with such rawness and realness that I found the book increasingly difficult to read but in a good way.Do not confuse with " Friends with benefits", as sexual attraction isn't directed towards someone who is hot friend material. I really enjoy and admire Sophie White’s work and her essay-style memoir Corpsing is truly unforgettable. A group of women that aren’t ugly, “too” large, or unconventional enough to be bullied; but also not stunning enough to be a constant object of attraction. And Lexi - well, Lexi is living the dream, hosting a podcast with her childhood bestie that's riding high at the top of the charts. But, understanding your place in the world through your desirability deeply impacts one’s sense of self.
