She is well ahead of the curve and is acutely aware that a future economy needs an economic policy framework that is rooted in production, work, and localism instead of finance, consumerism, and globalism. She became Minister for Women and Equalities in April 2018, replacing Amber Rudd, who had resigned following the Windrush scandal. [46] In July 2018 she became the first minister to use sign language in the House of Commons, to applause from all sides. [47] In March 2019, she was criticised in a newspaper article by Maya Forstater, who claimed she had not answered to Mumsnet users' satisfaction questions on sex and gender during a webchat held on International Women's Day. [48] Secretary of State for Defence: 2019 [ edit ] Mordaunt in May 2019 At last a book about why we can and should be proud to be British and how we can draw on our character and values as the foundation on which to build our future. The book is timely, provocative and funny. Even the most sceptical and curmudgeonly will surely see the value of Britain regaining its confidence and playing a leading part in building a sustainable global future.” Sir Michael BarberWhat comes to mind is the inane waffle that pads out the word count; words for the sake of words, the literary equivalent of filibustering. The parts that are potentially interesting or worth reading are utterly drowned by a relentless deluge of shallow cultural commentary, tedious rehashes of already stale arguments, groan-inducing attempts at humour, and excessively long lists. It explores Britain’s role in the world and how to balance global and local priorities; makes the case for the United Kingdom based on the mutuality that binds us; and calls for modernising reform in politics, government and markets. It describes the role of social media in culture wars and calls for a relentless focus on aspiration and a social enterprise revolution. Above all, it reminds us of the many reasons we have to be optimistic. Horton, Helena (15 September 2016). In a co-authored book one can’t be sure who has written what. Mordaunt’s collaborator is Chris Lewis, an international communications strategist who has worked with such great and good people whose praise adorns this book. One of his competitors describes him as “the real deal… a charismatic and successful influencer and businessman with offices around the world”. One suspects, from Mordaunt’s pronouncements so far, that many of the book’s ideas are his. An MP who knows her well tells me “the lights are on but nobody’s home”. The Party will be making an enormous mistake if they don’t select this visionary leadership who because of her forward thinking and her ability to communicate it, will easily win the GE and see the sanctimonious Starmer and his woke brigade walk the proverbial plank.
