The mesh pads do perform a bit better in games but they do something slightly odd that almost makes the headset slightly less detailed. If you mainly are using it for games and like the feel of the mesh more then use them. But in general, I'd recommend using velour pads. The next evolution in gaming headsets: An upgraded version of the crowd-favorite PC37X, our latest collaboration with Sennheiser is more comfortable, more detailed, and more stunning than the original. Featuring new drivers—the PC38X delivers higher fidelity and better frequency response

The sound quality is very clear with some nice lows. In-game music and sounds are epic and your spotify etc will also sound very good for the price point. It's not super audiophile level good but most people will be able to tell right away that the sound quality is good. The outer right cup houses the volume dial which I find slightly insensitive in terms of travel to volume change ratio. I find this to be a good thing, as minor volume adjustments can be made. Turning the volume all the way down doesn't completely mute the audio, yet goes low enough to allow for your attention to be diverted to the outside world. The volume dial also doesn't lose perfect channel balance at low volumes unlike other headsets with inline volume adjustments. So this is a weird one. The HD58x is supposed to be a budget way to get an HD600 series headphone. It offers the same style of narrow 3 blob staging and has the same forward upper midrange that makes vocals pop. But from a technical performance, it is a fair bit behind the HD6xx. It's kinda an HD599 driver in an HD600 housing. Giving you HD599 performance but HD6xx presentation. But so long as you're not ultra-sensitive to clamp it's comfortable and gets better as it breaks in. If you have ever worn another Sennheiser headphone you will know what to expect. The HD500 series and PC37x are very well regarded as being very comfortable, which for myself it's not that comfortable, it does ease up over time.

Soundstaging was a strength in the PC360, as well as the GAME ONE/PC37X, and I would've been incredibly surprised if the PC38X failed to deliver on a solid, open soundstage set by its predecessors. Thankfully, my expectations were happily met. Even in stereo, the PC38X sounds fantastically spacious, and holds plenty of air to allow objects in the virtual space to fill the room. Pretty much it's the same comfort as the PC37x but with a slightly better top padding as its split mesh (split top pads leave a space at the very top so you don't get a hot spot there). But this padding is less dense so no break-in time is needed but it will wear down faster (because the clamp is high it's not much of an issue). Enjoy unique, immersive sound in one single device. A breathtaking cinematic experience – designed to give you goosebumps: Movie nights will never be the same again. Just plug in, set it up and enjoy a whole movie theater at home.

I'm only disappointed because I would have hoped they would have used the cables that come with the GSP500 and GSP600 which don't get all kinked up and are much softer and flow way better. There are noticeably better cables. If you ever need a replacement Sennheiser (EPOS) gaming cable look into getting one of them. As far as frequency testing goes, the PC38X remarkably goes all the way down to 20hz. At my desired volume for music, the bass goes very deep down. I've heard planars with less presence down low. That lets you know that the PC38X is not playing around with bringing you information down to the depths. The bass is voluminous at at around 35hz-40hz which is my ideal range for immersive bass rumble. The PC38X is a satisfying headphone, and it doesn't even need to be basshead level to do that. While the PC38X isn't a basshead headphone, it should still satisfy most audiences. The extension and rumble certainly impressed me well enough. The mic sounds ok, nothing special, but it may be a little bit on the quiet side in my opinion. I had to turn the gain up +10dB through windows to be heard in discord. It’s the established tradition of delivering audio excellence combined with an enduring passion for quality design and rigorous manufacturing protocols.Venerable drivers: The drivers come from the same family as the Sennheiser GSP 500 and 600—two of the highest-quality gaming headsets on the market. They offer better low-end extension than the original PC37X, so your games and music feel more lifelike than ever before
