The CE-2 shares similar circuitry to the CE-1, however, to fit the circuit into a compact enclosure BOSS were forced to make a number of changes, such as the removal of the vibrato function, the stereo output, the volume and intensity knobs and the integrated power supply. Achorus pedal repeats what you play at very close intervals to make it sound like multiple guitars are playing . When you increase the depth, it increases the intensity of the effect. When you adjust the rate (or delay time) it makes the repeats occur closer together or farther apart. Using the Brilliance knob, you can control the “sparkling” feel of the CE-20’s chorus sounds for effects that really cut through the mix. The secret is the CE-20’s unique ability to enhance a guitar’s harmonics. Another new control is the Ambience knob, which adds reverberation to the chorus for even greater spaciousness and depth. There’s never been a sound like it! Memories 4 Nominal Input Level GUITAR/BASS: -20 dBu There’s also a three-way toggle that lets the user choose between three chorus types, including TriChorus (which uses three stereo choruses with various offsets to produce what TC describes as a unique, very broad and lush chorus) and, yes, Stereo Chorus Flanger-style effects. Read more… Five Creative Ways to Use a Chorus Pedal for Guitar The CH-1 Chorus Ensemble covers a wide frequency range and features highand low-cut filters. This lets you create any kind of chorus effect from a mild, natural chorus to the clear and penetrating stereo chorus effect popular in contemporary music. As I've mentioned, you get a really nice modulation layer and not a ton of fluttering or pitch shifting. You can get some of that sound, but the dominant feature of this pedal's tone is a soft, watery layer of chorus which is exactly the type of modulation I like to use. It has the same Rate and Depth controls and a bright red LED, and the finish matches the hue of the original baby blue paint. The CE-2W is even made in Japan and has a silver battery hatch screw just like the first version of the CE-2.

For our money, the key areas you should look at when buying a chorus are the range of speed and depth, whether it's digital or not, and whether it's stereo. Whether or not the pedal is stereo won't matter to you if you don't run a dual amp set-up. Nevertheless, it might be that even if you use the pedal in mono, you'll get a chance to use it in stereo for recording. There's few things quite as mind-bending as stereo chorus, especially when used tastefully. Three years later, this inventive new sound was squeezed into the blue CE-2 Chorus, and chorus pedals have remained in the compact lineup ever since. Four decades on, the spacious modulated tone of the signature BOSS effect is still loved by musicians everywhere. In 2016, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BOSS innovation, the original analog chorus sounds are now reborn with the Waza Craft CE-2W. The CE-2W’s Standard mode faithfully recreates the classic CE-2 chorus sound, and adds an expansive new sound field with stereo output, which was unavailable in the mono CE-2. CE-1 mode fully reproduces the stereo chorus and vibrato sounds of the legendary CE-1, with the addition of variable chorus depth not available in the original pedal. To commemorate the birth of BOSS effects, the CE-2W is made exclusively in Japan, just as the original CE-1 and CE-2 were. The third option utilizes TC’s TonePrint technology – via a USB connection, users can import “custom pedal-tweaks made by top-performing guitarists” into the pedal, or design their own customized chorus effects from scratch with the free TonePrint Editor.

On account of a buffer’s ability to drive long cable runs and provide silent switching, Boss remains resolutely in the buffered camp. If you're seeking a no-frills chorus pedal that won't break the bank, then the June 60 Mk II is a great call. It sounds excellent, modeled on the rich, seductive chorus found on the ’80s Roland Juno synths. Consequently, it's equally at home on guitar and synth, with extra options available via external dip switches. Despite the price point, it's even stereo via Y-cable.
