This Knot Tying Station is modeled after one I saw at Boy Scout Summer Camp this year when I attended with my son as an adult volunteer. I’ve been involved in his troop for a few years now as an Assistant Scoutmaster and it’s been very rewarding to help teach the next generation what I know. Boy Scout members have received a variety of awards from the Boy Scouts of America in recognition of their achievements. Among the most prestigious and rarest awards for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts is the William T. Hornaday Award and the Arrow of Light Award. In 1915, the William T. Hornaday Award was established to recognize significant contributions to and service to environmental conservation. This is the most difficult award that a Scout can earn in Boy Scouting, and it can be earned by any Scout rank. The Arrow of Light is the highest award given in Cub Scouting, and it can only be earned by Webelos who have completed the rank. Only Cub Scout badges with this name can be worn on the Boy Scout Uniform. Cub Scout members achieve the Arrow of Light as part of their growth as members, and it serves as an indicator of their progress toward the Boy Scout ranks.
