Throughout the book so far we have seen Jenny struggle with anxiety in many different situation but mostly social ones and I personally relate hard to that as someone who struggle with social anxiety. From eggs of rattlesnakes bursting to turkeys following the girls to school and Jenny getting her hand in a cow’s vagina, there is never a dull moment in the book! I say) your step dad would’ve totally pulled off that roadkill puppet trick if your mom didn’t catch him! The snarky, blunt and sometimes sarcastic humor is still there, and I can’t deny laughing out loud more than once.

I apologize in advance for that, and also for offending you, because you’re going to get halfway through this book and giggle at non sequiturs about Hitler and abortions and poverty, and you’ll feel superior to all the uptight, easily offended people who need to learn how to take a fucking joke, but then somewhere in here you’ll read one random thing that you’re sensitive about, and everyone else will think it’s hysterical, but you’ll think, “Oh, that is way over the line. Now, you’re not really allowed to hold koalas in many parts of Australia anymore, so she settles on having her picture taken in a koala costume beside a koala, but close enough (literally). Victor keeps going to the window and yelling, "CHICKEN DOWN," but neither of us has the strength to go pick Beyoncé up. Jenny was always aware she didn’t fit in the way her sister did and while she tried making being alternative her personality she still longed for that connection which lead her to try drugs and this wasn’t a good move. The book skims through a series of comic essays, akin to [David] Sedaris if he were an anxiety-stricken Texas mother with a fascination with the zombie apocalypse. In the irreverent Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad read, but somehow that spark of Furiously Happy wasn’t really there for me. Some reviewers have said this book is about individuality, and others feel it’s a book about family. So I always assumed that the day I got engaged I'd be naked, covered in rose petals, and sleeping with the brother of the man who'd kidnapped me.

Also, anytime Lawson mentions an argument between her and Victor it turns out to be the funniest thing I have read in years, which only makes me love these two more and the pictures definitely help the realism. Unfortunately, there’s a secret word somewhere in this book, and if you don’t read all of it you won’t find out the secret word. My father was one of those soldiers at the time, and when my mom told me this story as a teenager I pointed out that perhaps she should have appreciated my getting him off the streets like that.I burn bridges because I like the pretty way they glow and I do exactly the opposite of everything I'm ever told to do.
