Two years in the making, the footwear giant is claiming that the ZG21 is up to 20 per cent lighter than the brand's previous spiked shoes and is also 'launching a new category of golf footwear'. ZG21 doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue though does it, which is a shame given how stylish they are. In recent years Adidas have produced some of the comfiest golf shoes in the market, and the ZG21 follows that trend. If comfort is your number one priority when buying golf shoes, the ZG21 will see you just right. There are number of elements in the shoe that went into achieving this.

He also oversees all Tour player content as well so if you need to know what clubs Tiger or Rory has in play, Sam is the person to ask. On the positive side, the Lightstrike Foam and Boost Technology in the heel really did provide the extreme comfort that adidas say it does. It's like having a pillow stuffed with marsh mallows under your heel. The thing which immediately appealed to me about the ZG21 is that it combines the new lightweight ‘trainer’ design with a traditional golf shoe look. You almost get the best of both worlds. Additionally, the spiked adidas ZG21 Golf Shoes are made from recycled content as part of adidas' ambition to end plastic waste. 20% of the waterproof upper has been created using a minimum of 50% recycled content. Because of the styling, probably not. But that's just personal preference. I can see a lot of golfers getting a large amount of pleasure out of wearing the ZG21s. ProsThintech construction brings you close to the ground for better transfer, balance and stability, and consistent ball-striking with increased power. With an emphasis on comfort and weight, it would be easy to think the ZG21 had to sacrifice on traction or stability, but I found neither was compromised. The adidas designers seem to have found the sweet spot between mobility and stability in the ZG21. There’s flex when needed for weight transfer, but also ample lateral stability. The two BOA models feature the new BOA Fit System, a ‘Y’-strap design that’s a first in the sport and provides an even higher level of performance.

The design concept for the ZG21 was weightlessness, hence zero gravity. Obviously an unattainable goal, but the ZG21 did end up 20% lighter than the popular adidas Tour 360 XT. Adidas achieved weight savings in almost every aspect of the shoe through the use of advanced materials like Boost and Lightstrike, which also add to the comfort. Whether walking or swinging, the ZG21 provided a wonderful blend of support and cushioning. An aspect of the design I did like however was the fact that Adidas have designed these shoes with both genders in mind. There isn't a men's ZG21 then a women's ZG21 in the predictable colourways. Everything about them is quite gender neutral - with a nod to modern styling over men's or women's styling. This kind of attitude I'm a big fan of. The sole is particularly eye catching due to the colour scheme and contrast provided by the Swingplane traction zone. The Stability Fin may be there for the increased support it provides during the swing but it also brings a lot to the shoe aesthetically. It’s just a great looking golf shoe. I've never been too much of a fan of wide-looking fits and bold colours on the golf course, like most golfers, I like my golf shoes to tie in nicely with my outfit - therefore the flashes of lime don't really do much for me. The configuration wraps around the foot, creating a secure fit over the instep and provides flexibility and freedom in the toe box.

The ZG stands for Zero Gravity due to the feeling of weightlessness you have when you put them on. The shoe weighs only 13 ounces which is considerably lighter than most other spiked models and 20% lighter than anything else adidas have produced for golf. Additionally there is the Sprintskin tech which is a lightweight four layer waterproof (one-year warranty) upper made from innovative textiles and polyurethane films. Unfortunately, Sam is not a member of any club at the moment but regularly gets out on the golf course to keep up the facade of having a handicap of five. Bauer Media Group consists of : Bauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, That mild soreness wouldn't put me off wearing the ZG21 because it's par for the course (sorry!) with spiked shoes and I’d expect this mild discomfort to ease once the shoes are more broken in as wearing a brand new pair of spiked shoes for the first time often has this result.
