Description

For this fun classroom activity, have the students color and cut out the Titanic and glue it to the center of a plain piece of posterboard, with extra room left at the bottom. Begin this fun craft by having the youngster cut “waves” from blue construction paper, and glue them to posterboard in such a way that something can be slid behind them. For more colouring resources, this adorable Labrador Puppy Colouring Sheet is perfect for dog lovers. It features a cute illustration of a Labrador puppy laying down for children to colour. Why not use the finished creations to create a display about pets? Children could even draw their own pets, or pets they wished they had! What are some key facts about the Titanic? This can be attached to the end of the telescope. The child can then sound the warning that there’s ice ahead! 7. Make a Shoebox Ship This craft is simple and easy for any child. Turn an empty shoe box upside down, and trace and cut out three circles in its top, using an empty paper towel roll to trace the circle.

The Titanic had 20 lifeboats with a capacity of 1178 people which wasn't even enough to hold half of the passengers on board.

Other resources to support teaching on the Titanic

Since the theme is Titanic, the water can be embellished with cargo, lifeboats, and life preservers. Third class was at the bottom of the ship. Although the conditions here were better than other ships at the time, the 700 passengers in third class had to share two bathtubs between them. Of course, there is much interest as well in the sinking of the doomed ship. This excellent video created by National Geographic does an excellent job explaining the unfortunate event.

The ship was the biggest of its kind during this period of time but unfortunately never made it to New York as it sank after hitting an iceberg. Since the RMS Titanic was built and sailed over 100 years ago, it might be difficult for your children to imagine what it was actually like. Here’s actual footage from the Titanic Departure to help showcase the ship. This word search is also great to set as a homework task to carry on with learning and promoting more understanding. As a class, choose which medium you’re going to use so that the finished picture matches. As a colour choosing or mixing activity, ask children to try to match up the colours they use with those that their neighbours are using on the adjoining sheets.
