Furthermore, Tally’s diary entries explain the impact of each challenge upon her so that we are fully informed and involved. Even if there were elements that come across as far-fetched as an adult reader, I think it’s important to give people hope that the world is capable of some kindness and understanding, and that to some extent everyone has struggles they keep to themselves but may just be better at hiding. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). As a result it’s difficult to see some of the reviews about Tally being a brat and wondering if that’s how people will see you if this is their representation of Autism in girls.

I would recommend it to anyone because the subject matter is simply explained and combines that along with witty humour, great characters and at times, quite emotional moments. However, the book as a whole wasn't the most engaging--the plot is rather slow for much of it, and the Tally's Autism Facts sections, while informative, are also a bit info-dump-y, and I wasn't ever sure if the story was supposed to take place in the US or UK. Tally's diary entries give an authentic insight into one girl's perspective of being autistic, and smashing a host of common assumptions and stereotypes about autism as we see Tally’s potent sense of humour and her deep empathy. this is such a good representation of what it's like to be growing up as an autistic person and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to understand more what it's like to be autistic. I think the result of this was that people who can’t relate to Tally as a character find her extremely difficult to understand because she was a bit of a walking contradiction.I think if we had a slightly older perspective these explanations and the narrative voice around why Tally was struggling might have been able to execute her struggles in less of a confusing and unsympathetic way. I couldn't believe how many things related to him, even down to watching Peppa pig when he was worrying before bedtime. She is also autistic, and after her mum Kym shared a piece of Libby’s writing online, Libby and her writing went viral.

It was so accurate, and even though Tally's triggers were different than mine, I cannot even imagine what an overwhelming comfort it would have been if I could have read something like this when I was twelve.I think if I had had access to novels like this at Tally’s age I might have got the help I needed sooner. I was very torn on how to rate this because I jumped constantly between being able to relate to the main character and not finding her very sympathetic at all.

This booklist aims to provide a range of children's and teens' books that feature characters who are autistic, or who have Autistic Spectrum Conditions. People think that because Tally's autistic, she doesn't realise what they're thinking, but Tally sees and hears - and notices - all of it. I guess that is proof the community is not a monolith of people who behave in the exact same way - that is exactly why it is a spectrum condition.

When they are going to the fair Tally's dad asks her to come with him, but this means Tally feels stressed and can't follow the request even though she wants to go to the fair. It features bullying, friendship, fitting in, staying true to yourself and showing that everyone is different in different ways, all of which are topics which affect every child as they move up to secondary school.

However, I deeply identify with Tally's high sensitivity to stimulation and agitation over it, her obsessive-compulsive tendencies, some of her tics, and her constant stress over trying to find some way to appear at least semi-normal, or at least normal enough to fly under the radar. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! This was also my first time reading a novel that reflected some of my behavioral issues from the past. No one ever says to Tally, Tiger Girl is still Tally and that she is strong enough to do those things without wearing her tiger mask because she is Tally and she’s wonderful and strong and did all those things by herself. This book is in good condition, it has been read and may have some minor imperfections such as a creased spine, small marks and signs of wear and tear to cover and pages, but it contains no major stain or significant damage and is in good all-round condition. I picked this up thinking it would be an insightful read as my 11 year old, with autism, starts high school next month. However, we are now a little further down the road and I suppose I am more accepting and more than ready to understand my daughter in any way I can.
