San Blas Bay (2.5 kilometers away) has a pristine beach of fine red sand; the beach is unspoiled because it's only accessible by a narrow road and steep steps. See Great Walks Malta for a map, trail notes and information on other recommended walks. Around five days are needed for the 50km (30-mile) Gozo Coastal Walk. Marfa Peninsula Best for watchtower history and views of Comino Maritim Antonine Hotel & Spa – A 4-star hotel in the centre of Mellieħa, just a few minutes walk from the beach and close to a lot of restaurants on the same street. Facilities include three pools, a gym and a spa. Nestled along a protected bay surrounded by steep cliffs, Ir-Ramla il-Hamra (Ramla Bay) is the largest beach on the Island of Gozo. Unlike most beaches in Malta, Ramla Bay has a wide shore covered in fine reddish sand. There are almost no pebbles except for a few where the shore breaks.Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands – Located in the wider Mellieħa area, this is a five-star hotel well known for its unique location overlooking Golden Bay. It offers a number of excellent restaurants with great food services. Facilities include a private beach. The Grand harbour and Marsamxett harbour are the biggest and most protected natural inlets on the island. Valletta has been the capital city since 1566 where it is located between these harbours across the peninsula. Even on foot many of the distances are negligible and most of the roads are fairly quiet and pleasant to walk along. There is also a footpath network, though the paths require good shoes and a good map (they are not always very clear on the ground). The island of Gozo has a population of 34,500 and an area of 67.1 square kilometres (26 square miles). It’s 14.5 km long by 7.25 km wide and is located northwest of Malta. Qala - where another prehistoric dolmen Ġebla l-Wieqfa is located. Other interesting things are Ħondoq Bay and Belvedere, offering a nice view of the main islands of the Maltese archipelago and a small fortressThe immense fortified ramparts of golden stone glow a pinkish-ochre hue in the afternoon light. From the three bastions (semicircular battlements) of the Citadel, you can take in panoramic views of the Gozo countryside. The landscape is dotted with villages in the hills and valleys all the way to the sea. Within the Citadel is a maze of winding streets and narrow alleyways. Marsalforn's tiny harbor is a popular starting point for scuba diving expeditions. Favorite places to visit for scuba diving trips from Marsalforn include the Blue Hole and the Inland Sea on the Island of Gozo, around Cirkewwa on Malta Island, and the Comino Caves on the Island of Comino. db Seabank Hotel – Resort & Spa – offers 4-star accommodation with plenty of bars and restaurants within the hotel. It is very popular with families with children, being so close to the beach right across the road and promising a great time for young ones with games rooms and bowling lanes.Ta' Pinu Basilica, situated in open countryside is an important place of pilgrimage as miracles are claimed to have occurred here. The interior of the Basicila is rich in decoration. One can enjoy views of open countryside from outside the church. You can find a full list of my recommended hotels here: The Best Mellieħa Hotels based on personal recommendations One80 Kitchen & Lounge – Further up the hill towards the village, this restaurant is renowned for serving high-quality cuisine, whether in the modern dining room or on the terrace offering panoramic views. Verdant valleys surround this historic hilltop town, which looks out to the Mediterranean Sea. This strategic location was the watchpoint where the Knights of Saint John kept vigil over the channel between the islands of Malta and Gozo. The name of the village comes from the Maltese word that means "to keep guard."

Outside the busiest areas and outside the high season, hitchhiking is easy here and can lead to unexpected social interactions and changes to one's plans. Today, this Mediterranean island still fits the description of idyllic scenery, with its quaint fishing villages and peaceful bays. The pastoral landscape features green, rolling hills with a patchwork of small farms that lead down to sandy beaches and small coves. Azure Window on the island of Gozo, Malta Mġarr ix-Xini tower, one of the coastal towers built by the Knights in Gozo. Entrance to the tower can be arranged upon appointment. You want a lazy holiday with plenty of sun and sea. (You can find some of the best beaches in Malta in this area)Along the waterfront promenade and the small streets of the village are many restaurants and cafés. Most restaurants feature outdoor terraces, so that guests can dine alfresco while admiring the stunning landscape and mesmerizing deep blue sea. Mellieħa is known for its natural surroundings and particularly its (mostly) sandy beaches. Apart from the largest sandy beach that Malta offers, Mellieħa Bay, you can also easily get to Golden Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa (my personal favourite beach). Also nearby, to the North of Mellieħa Bay, you can find Armier Bay, Little Armier Bay and White Tower Bay. More info further down in this article: Beaches around Mellieħa.
