The World's Worst Children by David Walliams and Tony Ross is flying off the shelves for this age range, and for a reason. In terms of an age recommendation, I think these are great books for ages 8+ and if you want to start at the beginning, the first Tom Gates book is The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, which was first published in 2011. She used to send me out to get the flowers from the neighbours' gardens with a pair of scissors so she could press them - I think she thought that if she sent me to get them I wouldn't get told off! What advice would you give to a child who wants to start drawing or writing - but doesn't think they're any good? Guide, British Comedy (2020-12-16). Had previously bought all the Tom Gates books for my 7 year old grandson and from being a reluctant reader he absolutely loved them., so when “Random Acts of Fun” came out it was a no-brainer. He absolutely loves this one as well.” PerryEThe Tom Gates books are so popular and have such a recognisable look. What do you love most about creating them? Wiegand, Chris (2019-05-13). Ha! Maybe a bit! When I was young our family used to have holidays in a caravan in Littlehampton and I know my mum certainly never had the best time. She had to do all the same stuff - cooking, looking after us - in a much smaller space! This quirky, funny, highly-illustrated, fiction series follows life’s ups and downs of chaotic but loveable Tom, Delia, his old sister, his parents and of course his best friend Derek and his arch enemy, Marcus. Written by award-winning author and illustrator Liz Pichon, Tom is a master of excuses (especially when it comes to homework), creative storyteller and doodler and middle-school comedian extraordinaire. Scotland, Screen (2021-05-10). "Catherine Tate and Mark Bonnar head voice cast for The Brilliant World of Tom Gates". Screen Scotland. Archived from the original on 2023-04-16 . Retrieved 2023-06-28. Just copy things - find pictures you like and trace over them. You learn a lot about drawing by tracing things. Try out different materials - pencils, paints, watercolours, pens, all sorts. Same with writing. Don't be frightened of making mistakes. I can! I remember the first picture I did that my mum pinned up on a board. It was the first picture I did with oil pastels - not wax crayons - and the colours were fantastic. I remember listening to the rain in the caravan and hearing my dad snoring at night, but even when the weather wasn't great we always found something to do.

Hmm! I think the fewer members in a band the better - Ed Sheeran and Adele have got the right idea, I think! Bands are always falling out with each other. Although that would mean it was quite lonely on tour! Maybe a band like ABBA - great songs, colourful clothes, lots of fun. And we'd eat FAB ice lollies. There has also been a stage production, Tom Gates Live, which has travelled throughout the UK. There are currently no new dates planned. Aged around 10 years old, Tom is the younger of the two children of Frank and Rita Gates, and the younger brother of Delia. [4] He attends Oakfield Primary School where he is in Mr Fullerman's Class 5F, under headmaster Mr Keen. Children in his class include Marcus Meldrew (who sits next to and consistently annoys Tom in class), and Amy Porter (who also sits next to Tom, but whom Tom hopes to impress). Also in his year at Oakfield is his best friend Derek Fingle, who also lives next door to him. Tom has a second neighbour, June Jones, that annoys Tom and dislikes his band. The tenth book in the bestselling Tom Gates series of books from the brilliantly talented Liz Pichon. I drew a smiling tiger with the yellow, with red stripes over the top. From an early age I'd get presents of new pencils or paints - even at secondary school those were the things I loved best, like some Caran D'Ache pencils or some watercolour paper. And my friends thought I was weird, like, 'Was that all you got for Christmas?'Marlowe, Sam (2023-06-28). "Review: Tom Gates at Richmond Theatre". ISSN 0140-0460.
