Description

Studies in special risk groups (elderly, renally or hepatically impaired patients) indicate that it is not necessary to adjust the dose of fexofenadine hydrochloride in these patients. Sometimes doctors recommend that people with a severe, itchy skin rash take 2 different antihistamines together for a few days. Patients with a history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease should be warned that, antihistamines as a medicine class, have been associated with the adverse reactions, tachycardia and palpitations (see section 4.8) and should use TREATHAY 120 mg tablets only on the advice of their doctor. serious allergic reaction which can cause swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, flushing, chest tightness

Pregnancy Category B. There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. Treathay should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Fexofenadine is not suitable for some people. To make sure it's safe for you, tell your doctor or pharmacist before taking fexofenadine if you: As well as taking a non-drowsy antihistamine during the day (such as fexofenadine, cetirizine or loratadine), your doctor may suggest that you take a sedating antihistamine at night time if the itching is making it difficult to sleep. Human histamine wheal and flare studies following single and twice daily doses of fexofenadine hydrochloride demonstrate that the medicinal products exhibits an antihistaminic effect beginning within one hour, achieving maximum at 6 hours and lasting 24 hours. There is no evidence of tolerance to these effects after 28 days of dosing. A positive dose-response relationship between doses of 10mg to 130mg taken orally was found to exist. In this model of antihistaminic activity, it was found that doses of at least 130mg were required to achieve a consistent effect that was maintained over a 24 hour period. Maximum inhibition in skin wheal and flare areas was greater than 80%. Clinical studies conducted in seasonal allergic rhinitis have shown that a dose of 120mg is sufficient for 24 hour efficacy. But fexofenadine seems to be less likely to make you feel sleepy than other non-drowsy antihistamines. If you're breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, talk to your doctor or pharmacist, as other antihistamines called loratadine and cetirizine might be better while you're breastfeeding. Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue and dry mouth have been reported with overdose of fexofenadine hydrochloride. Single doses up to 800 mg, and doses up to 690 mg twice daily for 1 month, or 240 mg once daily for 1 year have been administered to healthy subjects without the development of clinically significant adverse reactions as compared with placebo. The maximum tolerated dose of fexofenadine hydrochloride has not been established. The carcinogenic potential of fexofenadine hydrochloride was assessed using terfenadine studies with supporting pharmacokinetic studies showing fexofenadine hydrochloride exposure (via plasma AUC values). No evidence of carcinogenicity was observed in rats and mice given terfenadine (up to 150mg/kg/day). If you're taking fexofenadine once a day, take your forgotten dose as soon as you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time.

headache – make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. It's best not to drink alcohol. Take an everyday painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen. No significant differences in QT c, intervals were observed in seasonal allergic rhinitis patients given fexofenadine hydrochloride up to 240 mg twice daily for 2 weeks when compared to placebo. Also, no significant change in QT c intervals was observed in healthy subjects given fexofenadine hydrochloride up to 60 mg twice daily for 6 months. 400 mg twice daily for 6.5 days and 240 mg once daily for 1 year, when compared to placebo. Fexofenadine at concentrations 32 times greater than the therapeutic concentration in man had no effect on the delayed rectifier K + channel cloned from human heart.

Side Effects

feeling dizzy – lie down until you do not feel dizzy anymore, then get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol and recreational drugs. If the dizzy feeling does not get better within a couple of days, speak to your pharmacist or doctor.

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over The recommended dose is one tablet (120 mg) daily. Take your tablet with water before a meal. If you're taking fexofenadine for the first time, see how it makes you feel before driving, cycling, or using heavy machinery or tools. If you forget to give a dose to a child who is taking fexofenadine twice a day, you can give the dose if it's within 4 hours of when they should have had it.However, results from studies using histamine-induced skin wheals and flares found that the size of wheal and flare was significantly larger when fexofenadine was administered with either grapefruit or orange juices compared to water. For adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take one tablet (120 mg) daily. Take the tablet with water before a meal.

In adults, the following undesirable effects have been reported in post-marketing surveillance. The frequency with which they occur is not known (can not be estimated from available data) Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

Fexofenadine hydrochloride is a non-sedating H1 antihistamine. Fexofenadine is a pharmacologically active metabolite of terfenadine. LONG LASTING PROTECTION from itchy & irritated allergy eyes with up to 8 hours protection from allergies such as hayfever, pet hair and dust etc There are no data on the content of human milk after administering fexofenadine hydrochloride. However, when terfenadine was administered to nursing mothers fexofenadine was found to cross into human breast milk. Therefore TREATHAY 120 mg tablets is not recommended for mothers breast-feeding their babies. Breast-feeding women should only use TREATHAY 120 mg tablets if advised to do so by a doctor.
