This is a good quality recording, no pops and scratches ;-), and even the two bonus tracks are good as well as familiar. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

A couple of days later I was at my mam and dad’s house when I noticed a book of sheet music that belonged to my brother who plays piano. Playing the album this afternoon, I cheerfully sang along with most of the songs (Fog on the Tyne was released later). Track B1 published by Hazy/Heathside, Track B4 published by Stratsong and Track B5 published by Essex Music. The record itself comes in a printed brown paper inner sleeve with a small white band logo in the centre. Our self-promoted gigs at venues like Jesmond Banqueting Hall and the New Orleans Jazz Club attracted a clientele who were as daft as us and often remarked on the whacky self-produced advertising material that had drawn them to our gigs. Long before Lindisfarne made their first album we had a collective interest in things visual and often fantasised about what our sleeve would be like when we eventually made our first album. This debut is probably their best, boasting pint-swinging tunes like "Lady Eleanor", "Scarecrow Song", "Clear White Light" and "We Can Sing Together". This kicks off with one of the most famous songs, still very enjoyable many years later (ok, ok FOTN was massive but I felt Lady Eleanor was a more traditional, ‘closer to the bands roots’ type of song than the commercial success of ‘Fog’). The upshot is that I was always going to be well disposed to this album, even though I haven’t listened to it for quite some time.

Since I am a huge fan of Genesis, reading their history, I found out that they used to open for this band, so was obviously very curious as to what this band may sound like as they were being booked together. Uncle Tony was Tony Stratton Smith, Lindisfarne's manager and owner of the Charisma label which was based at Number 7, Dean Street (I think). An antique frame with a picture of the band in the centre and a special font echoing the Northumbrian origins of our name would be the main features.Lady Eleanor" counterbalances any complaints I have, in any case: it's such a well structured song, particularly in regard to the slow, ethereal intro and the way it holds back its chorus until after the second verse (and what a lovely chorus it is, too). milligrammes later, Hull tripped for a month and still had flashbacks in 1978 (‘pretty frightening, really’). As there was no one around I tore out the page and put the sheet music book back in the piano stool. Great CD, a few of my favorite tunes are: Down, Jackhammer Blues, Knackers Yard Blues and Scarecrow Song.
