the fact maeve was also like well known and popular. usually in these type of books its like popular football boy and nerd girl. (I also enjoy that btw) but it was refreshing to see an actual match. Yes, sometimes, on occasion, you will find me reading a M/F book, like Kiss Now, Lie Later - no judgments, please. It wasn't that bad, per se, but the rival angle seemed a bit of a stretch, because while the couple's relationship was a secret, due to the rivalry and enmity between their two respective schools, the resolution of said conflict was rather softly-handled. Lastly, I wish I could have gotten to know Mauve’s twin, Liam, a little better. Or he at least could have had more screen time. He’s basically only mentioned in passing until the very end which I was sad about. To be such an important person in Mauve’s life, we hardly ever see him. the party scene - where maeve caught him kissing emily. i love those type of scenes but once again the way the author wrote it LIKE SHOW ME THE TENSION AND ANGER not just maeve being like "im so angry " I loved them, but I hated the third act breakup. Matt, her brother’s best friend KISSES HER and it gets blown out of proportion when Wes finds out and accuses her of cheating. He lashes out, breaks up with her and kisses the girl he told her not to worry about… yeah I screamed when he did that. Technically they were on a break but I was so pissed that he got drunk and kissed her because he saw Maeve was there. It was unfair to her because she genuinely didn’t cheat and he didn’t even give her a chance to explain before kissing someone else. While I’m glad it was resolved, Im disappointed that it happened. SHE CHOSE WES OVER HER BROTHER. I thought Liam was going to come to terms with their relationship but he issued an ultimatum and she didn’t choose her twin brother. I cant wait for his book because I hope the tension gets resolved and he eventually learns to get along with Wes.Piper Egan landed her dream job straight out of college—working at Empire Records. But instead of discovering new talent and changing lives, like she’d hoped, her time is spent taking meeting notes and catering to spoiled celebrities. When the chance to change that finally appears, she should be thrilled. What a nice contemporary romance! I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in especially because I was getting Romeo and Juliet vibes from the synopsis, but I really enjoyed this book!

And aside from the romance, I also appreciated how it also centered around their own personal lives at home and at school. There was a healthy balance between all three storylines that successfully showed how each was vital to the other. Seeing Maeve gain the courage to stand up for herself and earn her father's respect and attention was a rewarding moment and for Wes to see that even under the veneer of his parents' unsatisfactory marriage, there were still the hints of love that tethered them together. If it was not for their own tryst, this little appreciations may have gone unwarranted for a lot longer - so, in a way, there was some good that came out of their secret liaison. 💞💞 It was nicely shown - they shared some really cute moments together and Wes proved to be a real dear, despite his star stature as the imposing captain of the football team. Maeve is a girl also to be proud of - senior captain of the girls' soccer team, strong studious student, and also, the twin sister to the captain of her own school's football team. I empathized with Maeve's underlying fear and frustration and confusion of a supposed betrayal to her family by having feelings for Wes. 💕💕 THIS BOOK SHATTERED EVERY PART OF ME. I loved it, it was filled with moments of fear of sadness, as a sufferer of daddy issues literally. I resonated with this book, she was overlooked so much, put second when she was just as amazing as her brother. And it hardened my heart that Wes was the only one supporting her, looking out for her. He showed her love, when her own father didn’t even show it. They hardly know each other. Until one week of sharing secrets, pretending to be in love, and sleeping in the same bed changes everything. Feelings that were supposed to be fake start to feel very real.Wes and Maeve were beautiful, they truly defied my expectations and I loved every moment of it. It was ruthlessly amusing and breathtaking in the best way. Also, the fact that the twin-brother chastised the heroine and said she "could've let down his bestie easier" tells you all about the toxicity of this character. The fact that he gets his own love-story next bothers me. Partly because I’ve never been in one, and mostly because whatever Maeve and I have defies the norms of what any rational person would consider to be one.”

I felt like Maeve deserved way more, from Wes and basically everyone else around her (her family, her friends, her classmates, etc.) Homegirl was a Mary Sue but she was the only character with some semblance of depth in this entire book. She was also, to me, the main pursuer of the relationship. I felt like she had more commitment and dedication to their relationship, while Wes was just: there. One thing that kinda bothered me was the timing of things. Like one chapter something would happen and then the next chapter would take place a week or two later. And that’s how most of the book was. As well, there were a few times where Mauve or Weston would mention something that happened between the two of them, but it was like off the record. For example, Mauve got one of Weston’s sweatshirts, but we never see her get it. She just tells her she got it from him at some point. This happened with things a few times which I didn’t love, but it didn’t ruin the story for me.

Those reasons have never made sense, though, and they’ve become sillier and sillier the more time I’ve spent with Maeve.” This is an excellent novel for people who love to read because it has done an amazing job. The author expressed all the characters in a unique way that creates the impression that the reader is also part of the story and knows every detail of all the characters. This would truly be one of the most extraordinary novels. The author has shown great craftsmanship in the novel, this is extraordinary in every sense of the word, only the depth of this book is spectacular, not to mention the diversity and representation and quality of the writing and complex characters. Everything is simply outstanding. The author has shown the same level of skill in previous books such as. The moment she called Wes drunk and he dropped everything to make sure she was okay and THEY WERE BROKEN UP?? I love him more for that. I hate that he pushed her away because he was terrified of losing her and being her second choice, but with his home life it was understandable. The book could have been amazing without all the breakup drama if they had communicated, but I love their relationship . A torn attraction. A torn love, rippled by the bare hands of their loved ones. Maeve and Wes meet and the attraction starts their, even though they know of the disappointment and anger they would face from their rivaling towns. She’s from the wrong side of the field, and he’s playing the wrong sport, the opposing sport of her own twin.What a nice contemporary romance! It basically showed everyone that they needed to mind their business and she was going to love him despite the rivalry in the town, which was so unserious really. Why is her father, a grown adult holding some vendetta over a teenage boy? Liam, I understand but her father was so dramatic but I’m glad that Wes talked to him at the end and called him out for not being at Maeve’s games 🥅 ⚽️. My girl deserved better, especially because she’s so talented. I loved her so much, and she’s extremely dedicated to the sport. I'm confused about the rating tbh. Everything that had to do SOLELY with the main couple was greatly written, full of sweet moments, mutual support and respect. It was an adorable first love kind of story. This author knows how to bring to people together in a believable way, if only she wouldn't also include third act break ups in her stories 🤣😅 Stars. I enjoyed this. I don't read a lot of YA anymore and there were a lot of situations in this book that reminded me why I don't, but despite that, I liked Wes and Maeve's relationship and there was a lot of cuteness.
