Mags, a lawyer, feels there is something not right with her brothers 'accident' and when she receives a note, she delves deeper and finds ..well, I'm not one for spoilers. Things happen to both women. I took some glee from some consequences as both females were so unlikeable you just couldn't help yourself. Overall this is such a good read! I'm so glad to have chosen this book on NetGalley. Totally worth it. What is the truth? Well you’ll have to read it if you want to find out. Sorry. Thats the way it goes..

Jennifer’s world falls apart when she hears that her husband Cole has died in a Car accident. But a few days later her life is going to get worse when there is a woman at the front door claiming to Cole’s girlfriend with a baby in tow, who is the spitting image of Cole. The woman Sarah also claims that has saved their business buy buying into it which means the house and everything in it is hers. At first Jennifer thinks she is going to be evicted. When instead of evicting her, she wants to move in. There are a few surprises here and there but many that I already saw coming. But, hey my detective skills worked eh? :). I thought the writing was a tiny bit repetitive at times, but nothing crazy. More words/phrases being repeated a little than anything else. And the fact that you don't know if Abe fell or if he was pushed, isn't even what kept me reading this book with an inability to put it down. I was just so caught up in the character's stories that I had to keep reading. Especially Mira, the flat neighbor of Abe and Jody from Albania. She had a small part in the book, but her character really resonated with me for whatever reason. Thank you so much Sourcebooks for providing my free copy of THE GIRLFRIEND by Sarah Naughton - all opinions are my own.Abe is in a coma. Was it an accident? Was it suicide as the detectives believe? Or was it something more sinister? Birdnesting' or 'nesting' is a way of living that enables children to remain in the family home and spend time with each parent there. Each legal guardian stays at the home during their agreed custody time, then elsewhere when they're 'off duty'.” Jennifer thinks she is in a happy marriage with Cole. A newly remodelled house, nice cars and two great kids. She does not have to work, his business a success. Of course they did not always have it easy. Every marriage has its ups and downs, right? Seems like their marriage has a tiny weeny bigger down… That would be the shortest review ever though so we’ll talk around things a bit. For a start you’ll probably be expecting the usual sort of psychological thriller. Well yes. And No. She says enigmatically.

The Mother- an awful snobbish stereotype- had a serious obsession with her son- so much so at one point in the beginning of the book it almost felt like she was thinking about a lover and not her grown up child. In a genre that has been over-saturated with B-List Gone Girl and Girl on the Train Kmart brand variations, The Girlfriend soars passed the competition. Seriously everyone, this book is going to be a sleeper hit in the mystery genre for 2018. I was not only thoroughly surprised by the plot, but I was engrossed with the characters, the heartbreak, and just everything! But Jennifer has a plan. To keep your friends close...and your enemies closer. Sara is up to something, of that she is sure. But what, she is yet to find out. However, this is only the beginning of her troubles...because things are about to get even worse...a whole lot worse! Cole was involved in a road traffic accident, rolled his car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her beloved husband of fifteen years...gone. She is devastated. How does she even begin to tell her children that their daddy isn't coming home? Ever? And the party? What the hell is she supposed to do about the party? We get a glimpse of what the characters go through as children. And I must say be prepared for what some people call “triggers”. Laura... of course wants to LOVE her son's girlfriend and she starts to have a funny feeling that Cherry isn't who she appears to be. I like a book that draws me in with just a few chapters. This book has it and it got me hooked. I didn't even expect to finish it sooner due to my reading slump. I get easily bored and distracted but I kept reading. I loved it. Because its not really about what you think it is about. The surface will offer fans of psychological thrillers everything they could possibly want – then the hidden depths will offer everything else. So really. Everyone should read this book. Mags moves into Abe's apartment temporarily trying to piece together the final events that led up to Abe's medical condition. The last person to see Abe alive is his fiancé Jody. But, some things aren't adding up to Jody's explanations to what happened with Abe. Is Jody responsible for Abe? Who saw what happened that night?

Laura — uma mulher de meia-idade com um casamento rico em ruínas que fez do filho o Sol da sua vida Jennifer throws Sara out and endeavours to make enquiries with Cole's accountant about the allegations regarding their property and assets. If anyone would know, Corinne would. But it seems the news isn't good. A year ago, Cole was facing bankruptcy and Sara bailed him out with a watertight legal agreement that should anything happen to Cole or the loan defaulted, then all property and assets would go to Sara. How could Cole do this to her? To them? Another problem was that the pacing was very slow. It felt like it took ages for something to happen, and when it did there wasn't enough POW! to it to really draw me in.I liked one of the main characters, Mags, and found I became the most involved during her perspective.
