I'm really not a big fan of Martin Gore's voice, and I think it sums up my problems with this album - it's simply not trying hard enough. It has the ideas and ambition, but falls into the same category as the rest of 80's alternative pop. His voice carries the same melodramatic, overcorrect timbre that I hear too often from this era of music. It's an objectively good singing voice, but that's it.
