Description

Bold, simple pictures and a simple story give this potential for story time, and kids will enjoy identifying the othe animals as Max the kitten tries to figure out which one is a mouse. With its gruff hero, vibrant, strong colours, bold design and spare text, this story about looking beyond appearances has a satisfying punchy simplicity and jazzy feel. Reading Max the Brave took us back to our roots, when years ago we first started to read and beg our parents to come and tell us just one more bedtime story. The Max The Brave Fund was set up in August 2019 after Max sadly passed away from a Malignant Rhabdoid Tumour (MRT a rare childhood cancer). The illustrations, which look like they might be some sort of wood or block print (not sure about the medium - I really wish publishers always provided that information on the colophon!

Recommended to younger children who love cats, or to anyone looking for humorous picture-books with a super-hero and/or feline theme. Children are sure to follow along, fully engrossed as they wait to see if Max finally finds that darn mouse.

This led to a genuinely amusing book that is sure to grab the attention of young readers and entertain the entire family all at once! It was lovely to see Alanna from the Play Team, they do such a wonderful job with the children and have such an important role. Max the Brave could help initiate a discussion of how to tell if someone is trustworthy and about being careful what you wish for.

We also supply the children and their carer with care packages of essential and luxury items to try and brighten their day. These books are perefect to cuddle up and read with little ones, and for more confident kids to read themselves.Hotjar sets this cookie to know whether a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's daily session limit.

Kids will be tickled that they can distinguish a mouse and a monster while Max doesn’t, and — spoiler alert — the monster is more funny than scary. One such discussion could be about asking questions when you don't have enough information and another may be about who we can trust to gain information from. Ed is also a painter, working from his studio in East London and is represented by galleries in London and Los Angeles.Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). I love it so much that I’m considering borrowing a copy from my local library to bring it into my classroom for my students to enjoy.

As well as being named one of The Sunday Times's '100 Modern Children's Classics', Max was long listed for the Kate Greenaway medal and is published in over 15 languages. When he finally does meet a mouse, that enterprising little creature assures him that he is a monster, and that the mouse Max is looking for is actually the sleeping monster nearby. Too often we get caught up and frazzled in our busy lives, and we just need something simple and cute to read to get us feeling normal again. Max is a cat who is trying to be more brave and catch a mouse — the thing is, he doesn’t know what a mouse looks like. This book is a complete delight from the text to the pictures to the perfection that is Max (the brave).

He quite enjoyed the simple language and the funny questions about whether they are a mouse, especially when Max asks a mouse and is told no, the mouse is not a mouse. A special thank you to Great Ormond Street Hospital for inviting us along to a special evening of thanks. Yet, it is so interactive and enabled me to have a lovely discussion with my sister about bravery and animals. Here's hoping the success of the Max books encourages a reprint, because the copies at my library are falling apart! Enjoy some of our recommended books for younger children about animals, from classics like Dick King-Smith's Sheep Pig to modern favourites like Ed Vere's Mr.
