Other than that the plot never really improved or went forward (honestly it didn’t move in any direction), and when–by some miracle–it did, we suddenly get thrusted two steps back and have to repeat the whole process again. Wolff builds her core relationships with a keen eye for classic forbidden love stories with a touch of the Gothic and an awareness of her audience. The academy in Crave is brought to vivid life, from its sprawling campus, its staff and pupils to its many secrets, arcane traditions and rivalries. This leads to the third part of the story where Grace and Hudson reach this village (where they think they can find answers) but they just settle there and start to accept their life in the freaking Shadow Realm cuz they realize they are trapped there. Her uncle's exclusive and secretive boarding school is the last place Grace wants to be, but after the tragic deaths of both her parents, she is left with no choice.

It’s hardly a spoiler to say that Grace and Jaxon’s hate-cute, one that takes place over an amazing chess board within the first few chapters of book one, sets the stage for a tempestuous romance. The author wasn't that excessive with curse words in her other books, but for some reason, it was rampant in this one.But I have a nasty suspicion that Grace isn’t as human as she thinks, and she’s the one keeping us trapped. When I saw the announcement that she was making a WHOLE book dedicated to those months where they went from enemies to lovers I just about PASSED OUT!

I have a lot of thoughts on the size of this bad boy and how it fits in the overall scheme of the series, so grab some popcorn and lets talk Hudson and Grace! Even if that isn't the case (which I admit it may be), she thought he was, or at least had only known him for TWO WEEKS.As much as I loved it, I think it should've been shorter, and I don't think that it exactly fits as a fifth book in the series. As I have made it this far in Grace’s story, I am still going to continue, but this, so far, is not a re-readable series for me. I’m so confused cuz first they spend a whole year in the lair but never bring up how time is passing in the real world. This lightness of touch ensures even Crave’s most familiar elements and tropes still hold some appeal. This is something already known to the reader as it’s told repeatedly in the previous stories and this novel just shows how Grace first discovers it.

I really couldn't help it, this book was just as addictive as the rest of the series, and super easy to read/listen to. Chronicling the four missing months between Crave and Crush, fans will finally get answers to all of their burning questions about Grace and Hudson’s love story.
