Gladys was worried – should she call the police? Lou thought she was making a big deal out of nothing: ‘don’t interfere woman’. Logan wondered if he should go to the police, but he wasn’t sure if he was brave enough to enter the station. What would be the outcome for the family across the street? She opened her arms and I showed her the gun. I could have made a different choice. I could have stepped into those arms and changed my life.” But from the moment Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren arrives at the Joneses’ snug little bungalow, she senses something off about the picture of wholesome normality the couple worked so hard to create. On the surface, Jason and Sandra Jones are like any other hardworking young couple raising a four-year-old child. But it is just under the surface that things grew murky. I honestly spent so much of this book YELLING at all of the characters. They are all extremely flawed, and extremely human. For me that makes them some of the hardest characters to read, but that also shows me how WELL this author has written this book. The characters make poor choices. They will make you feel uncomfortable, and in the end you may still not enjoy any of them, but I have to say I ended this book smiling. As a young man of 23, Andrew(Drew),is already no stranger to disappointment. Between a father that deserted him and a mother who became agoraphobic as a result, Drew doesn't have much of a chance. Resentful of the fact that he is trapped in his hometown and trapped by his mother's illness, Drew finally snaps and moves out on his own. That's when the trouble starts.

The event that actually happened at the end was a complete and total jaw-dropping surprise for me. I’m not completely sure how I feel about it. Part of me thinks it had to happen that way, for certain things to come to light. And then another part of me things it was sort of an easy way out. I can’t quite figure out which way I’m leaning… but it is absolutely an ending I will be thinking about for a while, and so in that sense I think it was well done. All of the characters were well developed, and fleshed out with their own personal stories, giving you additional insight into the choices that they will make. Abby and Nate are a happily married couple that live with their teenage daughter Sarah in a quant neighborhood. Nate notices new neighbors that have moved in from across to them. Nate, the friendly and warming man decides to help the new couple Liam and his wife Nancy along with their teenage son Zac with moving a few things into their new home. Abby comes home and meets Nate across the street and Abby doesn't know what is about to hit her slap IN the face. She sees her ex Liam is one of the new neighbors.... As you can imagine Abby is freaking out because Liam is none other then the love of her life years ago until a horrible accident that turned Abby's world upside down. Meanwhile there are other suspects that seem to keep appearing and as the case becomes more and more complicated the police are left looking for a body rather than a missing person…. But wait - there is always more!!! We worked with the same realtor when we bought our rowhouse, and I had called her a few weeks ago, the day after my positive pregnancy test. She knows how focused I am on finding an as-close-to-perfect-as-possible house before the baby comes, and we don’t waste time anymore on pleasantries. This was told from various POVs which… you know I love of course. I really liked the italics chapters which were told from the POV of Sandra (the wife) they were really interesting opening up a can of worms and creeping closer and closer towards the current day. Abby believes that she has left her tragic past behind. She has a husband who adores her and, as he says, he loves enough for both of them. But what happens when your past moves in next door? Is Abby strong enough to resist, or will she give in to temptation? The mystery of this story seemed quite easy to solve, at least I thought it should have been for D.D. I thought she should have been a bit more switched on.

The Neighbors started out really strong and held my attention all the way to the end. This is my kind of fun summer read when I am relaxing outside and want a little distraction from the norm. Let me tell you this even before we go in, the house needs a lot of work, but this street is fabulous. Seriously, if I were you, I would make an offer on it today,” she continues emphatically as we step through the front door. Jedwabne Questions about the Past and the Future." Polish News Bulletin, July 26, 2001. [ verification needed]Now – Years later Abby is married to Nate, and they have a teenage daughter, Sarah. Then, a family moves in next door – father, mother, and their teenage son, and Abby is horrified to discover that the new neighbour is Liam. Because she’s never gotten over him, and pretty soon all their secrets are about to be blown sky high. It ends with a killer twist that will surely get readers talking! This book will likely appeal to those who enjoy domestic suspense novels such as those by Megan Miranda, Chandler Baker, and Sally Hepworth.” — Booklist A slight annoyance I had was that the author kept switch between calling the character Andrew and Drew within her narrative, sometimes a few times within one paragraph 😅 idk why it irked me a bit but it did lol still couldn’t put this down though! I do like Ania Ahlborn’s writing style, even if this wasn’t my absolute favourite by her. Every family has secrets, and on the hottest day of the year, the truth is about to come out. As a tragedy unfolds behind closed doors, the dawn chorus is split by the wail of sirens. And one by one the families who tried so hard to welcome the Wests begin to realise: Hogarth Street will never be the same again.

Prof. Tomasz Strzembosz, "Ultimate debunking of Gross" Polish original published in Rzeczpospolita, 31 March 2001. ABOUT 'THE NEIGHBOURS': Abby looks forward to meeting the family who just moved in across the street—until she realizes they’re the one couple who could expose her deepest secretsNeighbors: The Destruction of the Jewish Community in Jedwabne, Poland is a book published in 2000 written by Princeton University historian Jan T. Gross exploring the July 1941 Jedwabne massacre committed against Polish Jews by their non-Jewish neighbors in the village of Jedwabne in Nazi-occupied Poland. On Hogarth Street, an affluent area in Sydney, Australia, a few concerned neighbours and a delivery driver are horrified when shots ring out behind the closed doors and blinds of number 24. The husband and wife, John and Katherine West and their 5-year-old twins, George and Sophie, who live there, have endured a terrifying day, and it’s all about to end shortly. Abby ultimately ends up marrying Nate, the guy who saved her from the car crash but they both feel guilt from not saving Tom which ultimately makes them feel like they have to be together. Abby ended up pushing away her true love (Liam) and ends up settling for Nate because she felt that's what she deserved. I am a huge fan of this author's first book Seed and I was excited to begin this, her second. I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed. Forest expertly balances this perfectly matched duo’s emotional connection with their physical chemistry, making them easy to cheer on. This is a winner.”— Publishers Weekly, starred review

D.D. receives a call from Detective Brian Miller on a crime that is sure to become a media frenzy. Jason Jones comes home from work to find that his wife, Sandra, is missing leaving behind their 4 year old daughter, Clarissa ("Ree"). Sandra is young, blonde, and beautiful. Jason is compared to "McDreamy" from "Grey's Anatomy". Ree is a precocious 4 year old. Yep ... the media is going to have a field day with this one.

Success!

The Neighbors" by Ania Ahlborn is a cliched tale about a perverted June Cleaver wannabe trying to lure an innocent young man into her bed, to please her there and to take over as clean up boy for her little serial murder hobby. In alternating chapters, we hear about Jason and Ree as they try to cope with the disappearance of Sandy and are deluged with demands from the police, the media, and Sandy’s father. Then we hear Sandy’s version of events leading up to her disappearance. Finally, we also hear from a neighbor, who has his own cross to bear and who becomes another person of interest to the police.
