Description

Low viscosity wets out corrosion for full conversion and facilitates penetration of flanges and seams Traditional paints and coatings applied to corrosion give disappointingly short-lived performance because they simply hide the underlying and continuing corrosion - the failure is first seen by blistering of the coating and the rapid breakthrough of rust.

Hydrate 80 provides powerful protection to rusted steel surfaces. The electrochemical function stabilizes existing corrosion by converting the iron oxides into a protective metal complex. It also combines with surface moisture and oxygen, depriving the corrosion process of the conditions it requires. Paints and coatings applied to a hydrate 80 treated surface demonstrate amazing improvements in long-term performance.

The long-term performance of Hydrate-80 has been proven to significantly increase coating life in independent tests conducted by the German TÜV organisation under conditions of VDA 621-415 (6 cycles, or 1008 hrs) which included exposure to hot salt-spray, 100% relative humidity and drying atmospheres with each cycle lasting 168 hours. BTW, I did a test with 90% zinc primer on cleaned up rusted steel and that performed a lot better than the "converters" did- lasting several years on the flange of a front wing. Jenolite is a UK brand that offer a number of rust treatments that have been tried and tested for many years. Their rust converter is their most popular product and is designed to convert rust into a ready to paint surface.

Using DeoxC/Gel will actually remove the rust, leaving whatever solid metal is left (this is what i used on my Prelude, also a rear arch rust meister ) Even on the bodywork a stone chip or scratch can soon grow into a nasty blister, and you need to treat rust properly to stop it spreading. Rust removal involves spending hours with a wire brush or strong acidic chemicals that are dangerous to use, so it is far easier and safer to use a rust converter. These stop reaction in the metal using special ingredients, which neutralise the corrosion and allow you to paint over it. Beware of that etching primer, it may not be the most ideal to keep away the rust unless you finish the work right away as most of them have a hydroscopic action so they can actually take moistore into the pores in the primer and start new rust inside of it that will keep growing. So unless the bodyshop is gonna want to remove it all again, i would advice you not to. All painters i know, hate it when people use their own primer. Due to the many types of paint formulations and curing processes test compatibility of products at small scale before use. https://cdn.opieoils.co.uk/images/variants/icon/bilthamber/bilt-hamber-hydrate-80-500ml-bottle-1.jpgWe left sections of 1mm unpainted mild steel to gently corrode outside over the course of several months, then let them thoroughly dry before treating both sides with our products, carefully following the instructions. hydrate 80 is an excellent base for a wide range of paint finishes. It is preferable but not essential to use a good quality primer before applying topcoats. If you want the very best treatment possible, then take everything down to bare metal and treat any "pitted" areas with Hydrate 80. Let it do its thing for the longest time it suggests, then treat it a second time, using brush strokes against what you did first time round. If you have fairly stable metal, even with surface rust, you can use this method and/or follow on from the Deox i mentioned above. Importantly for long-term protection Hydrate 80 doesn’t contain chlorine which is known to transform into corrosive hydrochloric acid in rust converter applications causing under-film blistering and destruction of paint finishes or other coating products. As with all treatments preparation is important: Remove loose, flaky rust with a wire brush and abrasive paper (or if favoured power tools). The active ingredients of hydrate 80 must reach the oxidising surface of the steel. Thoroughly degrease the area and wash well with clean water to remove dust and contaminates. Failure to degrease area properly will cause “holidays” or fish-eye like flaws in the barrier. Below is a list of the best rust treatments for cars that removes corrosion and helps prevent the spread of new rust. The Best Rust TreatmentDepending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. https://cdn.opieoils.co.uk/images/variants/icon/bilthamber/bilt-hamber-hydrate-80-500ml-bottle-5.jpg Bilt Hamber hydrate 80 is an excellent base for a wide range of paint finishing systems. The first coat should be worked into pitted areas and then smoothed by brush strokes in one direction. Excess application should be avoided. The second coat should be applied at a 90 degree angle to the first. For best results leave for 24 hours after which finishing coats may be applied.
