Description

I have been reading these 4 books daily for about 30 years and have learned a tremendous amount of history of my Catholic faith.

It was at Douay, he began his principal work The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs and Other Principal Saints. Donald Attwater (24 December 1892–30 January 1977) was a British Catholic author, editor and translator, and a visiting lecturer at the University of Notre Dame. Loreto Publications has utilized the recent development of OCR scanning to extract the original text and to put it into a modern, highly readable, and much larger font typeface than any of the old editions. This substantial hardback book, beautifully illustrated with black and white etchings, is the perfect solution for so many Catholics anxious to get reacquainted with the lives of the saints, but who have too little time to read more thorough biographies. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. At first I would only read the saint of that particular day, evently I wanted to get through it and worked my way steadily from one end to the other. Father Herbert Thurston, SJ, edited and significantly rewrote the work; his 12-volume "Revised Edition" was published between 1926 and 1938. Scott Hahn In The Creed: Professing the Faith Through the Ages, Dr Scott Hahn recovers and conveys the creed’s revolutionary character.

I must admit that my review is based on the on-line version, so I cannot vouch for this particular edition. For those who value freedom and science as well as their Christian faith, this edition is a valuable contribution. We have extensively proofread the text thus generated, and have made the layout “user friendly” as the moderns so succinctly state. Each year that I read this devotional, I found my self meditating on various saints lives and trying to find out more about them. Father Butler's Lives of the Saints is an amazing book of devotion, arranged to follow the Catholic Church's calendar of feast days, and so is relevant every day of the year. Alban Butler, The Lives of the Saints, presents to the reader the life story of over 1600 saints and their times.

From a purely entertainment perspective, which certainly isn't how this book is meant to be read, it always strikes me a little funny when it brushes over what would be the more exciting details in someone's biography--I know these aren't the point of hagiography, especially when each saint is described so briefly, but it still comes across amusing to me. The first edition of Butler's Lives of the Saints was written by Alban Butler between 1756 and 1759. A very eye appealing set of four hardcovers books with a very thorough collection of the saints biographies.PRIDE/stinking pride who puts itself above the Creator and says "i will not kneel for baby Jesus asleep in the hay of a manger. Evidently our Freedom, Science and general progress is not valued if we don't use a corrupted copy of a western classic. This is hardly Butler's work at all - this text has been raped clean of all the author's intent, and is filled with sophistries and outright lies. We think this work deserves to be so considered, on account of the close resemblance it bears to the historical portions of holy writ.
