I enjoyed the stories which are mainly centered around her growing up with eccentric parents, her older sister Rachel and a slightly potty sounding grandmother. Emily and her sister always wanted a dog but never had one, and had a fascination with dog families, those ones you see on adverts all happy and smiling and sitting down for dinner together each night.

Emily’s whole world turned completely on its head in December 2011. Rachael suddenly became very ill, and passed away less than a month later from an aggressive form of cancer. In 2014, her mother was diagnosed with MND, passing away a year later, shortly followed by the death of her father a few months later. Within three short years she was completely on her own. “There’s something about the family you have grown up, in whatever form that takes, that defines you. It is who you are. “ I had moments where I would go to ring my sister, with something funny, or if I had passed somewhere. And then you’d get this sinking feeling of I’ve got no one to tell, no one understands this” However, Everybody Died, So I Got A Dog is all hers, and completely personal – firstly reflecting on her eccentric, extraordinary and bohemian childhood as a family unit of four (actor mother, broadcaster father, and older beloved sister Rachael). Coleen Nolan shares an update on her family as she makes a heartbreaking admission: 'I've been feeling so redundant' Wynonna Judd joins The Voice! Star will serve as a 'Mega Mentor' amid rumours her country music rival Reba McEntire may LEAVE after one seasonEmily Dean is a writer and radio presenter. She is Frank Skinner's co-host on the award-winning Frank Skinner Show (Absolute Radio) and currently presents a hugely successful podcast for The Times called Walking the Dog. She spent eight years as Deputy Editor of InStyle magazine and has written for titles such as The Times, the Evening Standard and You magazine. She lives in London, supports Arsenal and her career highlight was when Mark Gatiss called her 'sci-fi royalty' due to her childhood role in BBC cult series Day of the Triffids. This is the funny heart-breaking, wonderfully told story of how Emily discovers that it is possible to overcome the worst that life can throw at you, that it's never too late to make peace with your past, and that the right time is only ever now, as she finally starts again with her very own dog - the adorable Shih-tzu named Raymond. Growing up with the Deans was a fabulous training ground for many things: ignoring unpaid bills, being the most entertaining guest at dinner, deconstructing poetry. It was never home for the dog Emily craved. A particularly dark period followed after her dad’s death, and Emily struggled to cope with her grief. She regularly saw her counsellor, Sue, and describes these sessions as “becoming a cocoon of comfort… like getting into a warm bath, where I could turn off the outside world and shed my skin”. I never thought I’d read something where somebody *got* it. Where somebody knew that there was no ‘getting over it’ and getting better. That there would always be bad days and good days and sad days and happy days. That there was a long and painful road towards accepting it but never getting over it, never forgetting or brushing it aside or being magically healed from the grief and trauma.

Writer and broadcaster Emily Dean had longed for a dog from childhood, but becoming a ‘dog family’ was never on the cards. After her sister died, followed by both her parents, Emily encountered a period of great change and self-discovery, resulting in a decision to write her own story, and welcome four paws into her life EAN: 9781473671362], Gebraucht, sehr guter Zustand, [SC: 2.38], [PU: Hodder & Stoughton, United Kingdom], EMILY DEAN EVERYBODY DIED SO I GOT A DOG 'WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH CRY AND STROKE YOU… More... It examines the messiness of families, the roles we play (and assume) and so much more. There is wisdom contained in this book that we can all benefit from, dog lover/dog owner/dog family/dog hater alike.

Her mother, Christine Collins, an actress, seemed to be a rather sad figure whose career (such as it was) had been derailed by the arrival of two children.
