At around 2am I made myself a hot Bovril for the avoidance of caffeine and to receive its meaty punch’. On 29 December 2017, Mortimer and Reeves starred in a relaunch and new singular episode of their comedy Big Night Out for the BBC. The show has been remade and subsequently renamed to Vic and Bob's Big Night Out. The episode remained true to the classic Big Night Out formula and was composed of various comedy songs, skits, characters and sketches. This was the first time the Big Night Out series had featured Mortimer's name in the title. A full series of Vic and Bob's Big Night Out began on BBC Four in November 2018. deftly combines all the varied aspects of Mortimer’s eventful, fascinating life and paints a fully three-dimensional picture of this much-loved figure’ In April 2010, Mortimer appeared on the Sky1 panel show A League of Their Own, on Andrew Flintoff's team. This was such a weird book, I think I ultimately came to suspend belief and embraced it for what it was. So many plot points that were unbelievable, and the squirrels just pushed it over the edge for me. Quirky, yet forgettable.

Dent, Karen (27 February 2008). "Reeves enjoys a Big Day Out with apprentices". The Journal. Archived from the original on 29 June 2009 . Retrieved 28 February 2008. Who should buy this book? If I had to guess, I’d say every single woman who owns a cat will have this pressed into her hands over the next few months. Plot Gary, a down-at-heel London solicitor, goes for a drink with a friend. The next day, the friend goes missing. Meanwhile, Gary meets and falls for a mysterious woman. Could the two be connected? And why does Gary keep having conversations with a slightly belligerent squirrel? The debut novel by comedian Bob Mortimer has the answers. Gary Thorn is a middle aged guy (who talks to squirrels) and finds himself in the middle of a missing co-worker mystery. The police are inquiring and a private investigator firm is also on his trail. He immediately falls for a mysterious woman at the bar and he all he has from her is this book called the Clementine Complex. Add in a bunch of nosy neighbors and an adorable judgy dog and you have this odd caper.Update now that I read it: Of course it was very funny but also warm and Im glad we had a mention of the legendary Gary Cheeseman "snipers dream" (top tier joke) and other familiar tales. Main character Sally, a woman who gleefully rediscovers her can-do attitude when all the unnecessary peripherals start to fall away. Bob was born in 1959 in Middlesbrough, the youngest of four boys. His father died in a car crash when he was seven and Bob says he became his mother’s little helper – although he also set fire to their house after playing with fireworks. As a teenager he dreamed of a career as a footballer, but he ended up studying law at university, and worked as a solicitor in south London. The writing style I enjoyed as it was very reminiscent of how Bob tells all of his tales anyway: short, sharp sentences that set the scene nicely without any fluffery. It was funny in the right places, but I think could have been injected with a little more (it was also particularly Bob-humour as well, which was well received).

Can an extremely shy person who has never once dreamed of a life in show business in his approximately 30 years on Earth become a beloved comedian with many stage and TV shows to his credit? Yes! This memoir alternates chapters between descriptions of Bob Mortimer's emergency triple bypass and his childhood, adulthood, and show business success. I suggest getting the audiobook version, which includes enthusiastic singing and about two dozen different accents. It is the comedian’s first novel and is the subject of a murder mystery (Picture: Simon and Schuster)The author Ed James recommended this to me after I listened to, and loved, Windswept and Interesting by Billy Connolly. I wasn't convinced. As a student my (largely male) flatmates subjected me to hour upon hour of Vic and Bob and, other than Shooting Stars, I found it bizarre, absurd and silly - and I rarely laughed. BUT I am a huge fan of Taskmaster and Bob did make me laugh when he appeared in series 5, so I thought I'd give it a go. An evening in which he also has a flirtatious episode with a strange but endearing young woman, who may or may not be involved in the mystery. Initial thoughts? I found the humour a little forced, which is odd because I normally love Bob’s spontaneity, however it did finish with a need to know more, so after the 2 chapter taster I’ll reserve judgment for now, but would be keen to read more. When the police arrive on Gary’s doorstep the next morning saying Brendan is missing and he was the last person to see him alive, the book takes all sorts of twists and turns. There’s a bit of a mystery, a bit of romance, and a bunch of insight in human beings and their behaviour.
