Now that the BBC has released the full schedule and reading list for Between the Covers, we’ve got a full rundown of every celebrity guest later in this article. The metaphor of pottery is perfect for Thrown. Not only do many characters find themselves thrown by events, but they themselves are like the items made in the community centre. Some are more perfect than others. Many have flaws. Some are broken and every single person is unique. What I found so successful too, is the fact that at the end of the book, not every single plot element is resolved; just like real life not everyone gets a happy ending or knows exactly what will happen next.

BBC Arts has announced that Between The Covers is returning to BBC Two for a fifth series in November 2022 with Sara Cox hosting. I listen to more audiobooks. I’m not really good with my own thoughts in a quiet room – I don’t know if it’s something I should be worried about. When I’m doing mundane things, I just want a little chat going on in my ear. Likable, largely middle-class men in their 50s are my thing at the moment. I’ve got Louis Theroux, Adam Buxton, David Mitchell and not remotely middle-class Bob Mortimer, whose And Away autobiography is great. This is at a macro level. This lady has really changed her life. Our kids see us as just mum, or dad, as a parent, that's all you are. They don't think of you as a person, who's had adventures, and who gets things wrong, and who doesn't know the answer. Sara Cox Cannot wait to welcome more witty, wise and wonderful guests in to the world’s friendliest book club as we delve ‘between the covers’ for the sixth time! We have six brand new books that I think might just be the best half dozen yet..." The story was getting increasingly ridiculous and was really resembling a soap opera more than a well-written novel, so that's why I've decided to finish off here. I won't leave a star review, because it doesn't seem right if I haven't even read to the end. There is yet so much potential, given the breadth of topics which can be explored, such as the empty nest syndrome, the emerging skeletons within a marriage and childlessness. Not to mention the theme of pottery, which actually can be a nice parallel of the four main protagonists shaping themselves further. Little Shuggie Bain, bless him. He’s so sweet and so heartbreaking trying to look after his mum - it absolutely broke my heart – and I’m really excited about Douglas Stuart’s new book.

Amanda Ross, CEO of Cactus TV, who heads the book selection panel says: “It’s a joy to be able to shine a light on great books, with great company from the entertaining panels that we know will inspire more people to read for fun. I think these six new books include some of the best we’ve chosen for the series so far, and I can’t wait to hear what the viewers think.”

Six new novels for your Spring reading list

The celebrity panellists keen to share their love of reading include Rob Delaney, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Nish Kumar, Sandi Toksvig, Richard Armitage, Ellie Taylor, Ade Edmondson, Kerry Godliman, Bill Paterson, Annie Macmanus, Chris McCausland, Alex Jones, Ben Miller, Andi Osho, Ed Byrne, Suzi Ruffell, Omari Douglas, Angela Barnes, Adam Kay, Anita Rani, Ahir Shah, Laura Smyth, Jo Brand and Miles Jupp. Get this: my cleaner has organised them by colour. It’s not great and I’m too polite to say anything. I don’t know why I’m whispering – I don’t think she reads the Observer.

Between The Covers (6 x 30’) was commissioned by Emma Cahusac for BBC Arts and BBC Two. Created and produced by Cactus TV, Exec Produced by Amanda Ross with Series Producer Pollyanne Conway.

Between the Covers: 12 books for the summer

Sindhu says: It's a book about a woman who discovers her mother's extremely colourful, and quite scary and horrifying, past - after her mother has died. The mother has left her a gun, and that's just the start of the story. We have six brand new books that I think might just be the best half dozen yet. Prepare to be taken on a whistle-stop tour of Europe - as we celebrate Eurovision by exploring six fantastic books set in countries competing in this year’s song contest.

What’s really refreshing is I’m used to interviewing people about their latest podcast, or their new single or album, or their TV show or stand-ups show, and there’s none of that on this, nobody’s plugging anything, they come on just because they love books and they want to talk about books," adds Sara. This year, as Liverpool and the UK prepare to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 on behalf of Ukraine, each episode will also feature a novel set in a Eurovision country. It’s called Metronome. It’s quite different to what I go for but I really loved it. I thought it was by a woman because the female protagonist is so well written, but it’s by Tom Watson, an annoyingly young man. I loved Bonnie Garmus’s Lessons in Chemistry as well. The publisher added: “Weaving timely themes, perfectly observed characters and an unevenly shaped jug-full of hope, Sara Cox’s debut marks the arrival of a wise and welcome new voice in the fiction market."The synopsis reads: “ Thrown is a gloriously big-hearted novel about four women who attend their local community centre pottery class. The women all live on the same estate; a place where circumstances have led most to live guarded, private lives. At the heart of the estate sits a dilapidated community centre, which is no longer the cherished and hopeful place it once was. The new pottery class could be a fresh start for the centreand the students. And, as the clay is hesitantly moulded, so the lives of four women at the heart of this wonderful story begin to be revealed." I felt like these ideas would just bubble up, like they were coming from the characters. It was a bit like Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost. The ending came to me in the middle of the night: I was half-dreaming, half-awake, and I thought: “Aaah! That’s what’s going to happen!” Riders and Polo combined fruity frolics and horses and that blew my 15-year-old mind
