History Lesson over, what did they go with? Well the answer was to give the army Command Points like everyone else but they get an absolute ton of them Stalliarch Lords armies turn the usually slow-moving Ossiarch Bonereapers army into a savagely swift one, thanks to their ability to run and charge. Command Ability: Levellers of Cities –Lets you ignore cover saves for units in melee. Good for routing out those pesky entrenched enemies. Command Ability: Counter-Strike –Affected units get to reroll all hits after a charge. This would be good in just about any scenario but especially for bonereapers, most of your units hit on 3+s with some rare exceptions so this is damn near guaranteeing all your hits will get in.

Ossiarch Cohort –The book’s “super battalion” it requires at least 1 of each of the other battalions. I haven’t calculated how big of a list you’d need to fit all of this in but I can definitely say it is not practical, in return you get…D3 relentless discipline points per turn. Hardly seems like a worthy prize for such a task and more like bragging rights. High model-count armies which can rush across the board to engage (120 Chaos Marauders in a Plaguetouched warband, for example). Swole skeletons. Unlike other, sadder undead armies, the Ossiarch Bonereapers aren’t necessarily horde-based. You’ve got some real power behind those bones, but playing a horde can also be a real pain for your opponent. Options! Oathbreaker Curse: Whenever your opponent gains a command point, roll a die, on a 6 they lose it. Pretty damn good, while a 6 is a risky proposition, every time it works will hurt your opponent badly, and armies that generate a lot of CP like Gloomspite Gitz will be hurt more by this. Overall the Bonereapers are a very strong new force. Like many new Age of Sigmar armies the unit selection is pretty limited, and its unlikely there will be too much support beyond this initial wave, but the limited model selection belies an underlying complexity to the army. To be frank, it plays unlike any other army before it. It turns the command point system completely on its head, turning every unit into a HERO, which opens up a very wide variety of tactical options. The relics, artefacts and spells are generally very powerful across the board, further supplementing these forces. Properly supported it’s going to be very hard to table this army, or even take down some of the sturdier Heroes like Katakros himself.Lords of the Ossiarch Empire: This essentially let’s you include Nagash or Arkhan in your Ossiarch Bonereaper lists. They gain the OSSIARCH BONEREAPERS keyword, but you can’t use mercenaries. This comes with a few caveats you should be aware of. Both Nagash and Arkhan received a price hikes and their warscrolls were also changed to better fit in the new army, it is also not clear if they can benefit from subfactions, the book does not directly state that they can’t, but all named characters in the book already have subfactions. As of writing we would say go for it but keep your eyeballs peeled for the errata. Ancient Knowledge: Identical to the Kavalos version, gain 1 additional relentless discipline point. Sadly, Ossiarch Bonereapers don’t have a Start Collecting to help you get a bunch of models together at once. When the army first launch there was a box, Feast of Bones which also contained Ogor Mawtribes. If you had a friend to split with it wasn’t a bad deal and for a time it was the only way to get your hands on Vokmortian. The box is no longer in print though and the unit selection does leave a bit to be desired as it only has 10 Mortek Guard(as opposed to the standard box containing 20), Vokmortian (who isn’t very good compared to your other heroes, and you can buy him seperately now) and finished off with 3 Necropolis Stalkers/Immortis Guard and 3 Morghast Archai/Harbingers, neither of which are much good even with the fairly recent point drop they received. If you can get one of the box cheap, think about it but it’s not worth looking all that hard for. One boon to the army’s currently limited unit selection, and the low model count of the army makes it mercifully easy to buy separate unit boxes to get going with. Battleline Legion Ability: Unstoppable Juggernauts –+1 to saves for all units. Bonereapers in general have good saves compared to equivalent models from other armies, this turns your basic Mortek Guard battlelines into a 3+ with rerollablle 1s, and something like the Immortis Guard into a daunting 2+. Just excellent all around

Reknit Constructs, for healing D3 wounds and Unflinching Coordination, to have a unit fight immediately after a hero, return from White Dwarf but Reknit Constructs had its one big downside removed- you no longer need to not move to use it. Excellent. Scroll of Command: -2 bravery within 6″, the Kavalos will want to get into melee combat often so this is pretty good, especially if you can combine it with other bravery traits. If you can’t it’s only so-so. Lode of Saturation: Allows you turn a different unit’s Deathless Warrior’s save to a 5+. It’s OK, but it’s such stiff (heh) competition from the other artifacts you’ll probably skip this. Once cast, you can keep it ready until the start of any phase, and unleash it to cause mortal wounds. Being able to cause up to 8D3 mortal wounds before combat starts is frankly incredible. Kavalos DeathridersBrand new battle tactics and grand strategies for matched play to let you to be the tactical supremacist on the field. Slow. With some exceptions your units are slower than usual without spending limited resources, and combined with the low model count that means you could potentially be out-maneuvered. That’s right, you didn’t lose access to your old Command abilities. Basically all of them returned intact and unlike other command abilities you can still use them multiple times in a turn. The issuer and receiver must be different each time, but you can still, say issue Unstoppable Advance onto several units for that +3″ of movement.

Gothizzar Harvester –Your sole Behemoth option, this guy does a lot. Able to be equipped with Scythes for hordes and Bludgeons for more elite foes the Gothizzar Harvester hits hard and takes a beating like any Behemoth but is notable for being able to heal nearby allies for each foes it kills. As discussed above, Ossiarch Bonereapers appreciate anything that can keep their few units in fighting shape so this guy is a fairly popular take if you can fit one in. You probably won’t need more than one, but definitely consider it especially if you don’t have a boneshaper. Before the Petrifex nerf, you’d only ever see that single legion; the world’s largest Age of Sigmar singles tournament, Cancon 2020 in Australia, had 18 Ossiarch Bonereapers armies and all of them were Petrifex Elite. Since the change we’ve seen a much wider variety of Legions in play, with Mortis Praetorians and Stalliarch Lords being the most common, and all but Ivory Host seeing competitive play. Mortis Praetorians Dan: There is a mix of effective play styles at the moment, but we’ve certainly seen the long-heralded return of the shooting meta and a new level of magical dominance from Lord Kroak (and likely from Teclis soon). This environment means that lists reliant on small support Heroes or a particular spell for a game plan will encounter some difficult matchups. Kharadron Overlords – Shooting and Movement

List Building

With access to a unique relentless discipline mechanic in place of command points, they have loads of points to spread around, representing the iron will of their necromantic leaders. Soul Reservoir: +2 to casting rolls, however if the bearer rolls an unmodified 10+ the bearer loses this artefact. Basically turns your Soulmason into a mini-Arkhan and the bonus is probably worth the risk, for reference it’s a little less than 20% chance you’ll roll an unmodified 10.
