She is joyful and hopeful and energetic without being stupidly sentimental; she is funny and real in her disappointments and worries but doesn't give up. Her books include interpretations of beloved classics including Mary Poppins, and her Ruby Redfort and Hubert Horatio books are loved by children all over the world. In fact, my own family talks about her and her experiences as if she is an actual real life friend of ours.
