I hope Lauren Child will be writing more in the series as it is wonderful to have the adorable Clarice Bean back for more adventures. Aber dieses Jahr wollen ihre Eltern nur zu siebt feiern, denn, wenn sie schon an die ganze Arbeit denken, wird ihnen ganz anders. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. And without those things, she is going to have to try exceptionordinarily hard to stop the Christmas spirit completely floating away…But luckily, there is no one in the world like Clarice Bean – and she is going to THINK LIKE AN ELF, and that means everything will be A-OKAY. Join the one and only Clarice Bean and ‘Think Like an Elf’ in this irresistible and spectacularly sparkling Christmas story from the inimitable Lauren Child.

Clarice already knows that family and friends truly make Christmas - but it doesn't hurt to make several copies of wish-list letters to Father Christmas (even if Marcie does say, 'You'll be lucky').

The story is full of holiday cheer, and I loved hearing about all the family traditions that Clarice Bean celebrated with her family. Wrap yourself in the warmth and wit of former Children's Laureate Lauren Child and be transported by the love and laughter that is Christmas with the utterly irreplaceable Clarice Bean. Lauren Child has been at the forefront of innovation in children's books for over 15 years and has raised the profile of illustration as an artform for all ages. Everyone is scattering to different places and Clarice is afraid that the spirit of Christmas will be lost.

She finds little things to do to serve others, and discovers that the Christmas spirit is not in the gifts you receive, but in showing others you care. In 2017 she was announced as the new Waterstones' Children's Laureate, declaring that her aim will be to forge 'stronger links between the world of children’s literature and other art forms such as fine art, film, music, television and design. I wish they would just stick to one style instead of mixing different elements that don't really match. It’s a lovely children’s book aimed at I would say 7-13 years old’s, written in a cheerful way, including plenty of gorgeous illustrations. The writing does such a good job of letting us see things from Clarice Bean's perspective, and it really captures her childish voice. She is joyful and hopeful and energetic without being stupidly sentimental; she is funny and real in her disappointments and worries but doesn't give up. Her books include interpretations of beloved classics including Mary Poppins, and her Ruby Redfort and Hubert Horatio books are loved by children all over the world. In fact, my own family talks about her and her experiences as if she is an actual real life friend of ours. The one and only Clarice Bean is back to save her family's Christmas in this sparkling story of joy, goodwill to all peoplekind, and some very Clarice catastrophes, perfect for sharing with all the family!

Except this year it is going to be a quiet-ish Christmas in her house, which doesn't feel right because Christmas is all about noisiness and being full up and FAMILY.With a houseful of 7, one can only imagine how it feels to be a 12-year old girl around such a busy time of year, along with the pressures of school, and all the hopes, dreams, and wishes leading up to that fateful morning. We've read all of the Clarice Bean books that we've been able to find plus the Charlie and Lola books and others that Lauren Child has written or collaborated on. It’s time to take a trip back to Navarino Street (number 7), to join the Tuesday family for the holidays! It was so good for me, I think I will read it in October every year as a little warm up for the Christmas season and to give myself a boost to keep the Christmas Spirit from evaporating.
