Description

Ground crew are also featured in the campaign game, represented by markers rated for a variety of tasks. This is a fascinating account of one of the war's most daring missions written by the man most responsible for its success.

There are comprehensive and well written notes at the end of the book which adds much needed depth along with two sets of black and white photographs.

Interesting to hear Guy Gibson's own words, but probably the worst choice of narrator I've ever heard. Finally, the role of Pathfinder planes, flying ahead of the main body and dropping coded flares to mark distance to the target and dropping a flaring marker bomb to indicate the exact center of the raid. Written by the man himself this is a no nonsense memoir that gives a glimpse of men who did their duty, under the command of a man who was driven to do his best to ‘get the job done’. This is a fascinating book, written at the height of the war just after the famous Dams raid and just before Gibson’s untimely death.

from some of the most experienced crews in Bomber command and the difficulties that arose, how they were solved and finally to the raid itself which was a great success but at the cost of the lives of 54 air crew. Two days after the start of the Second World War ( September 3rd, 1939 ), Guy Gibson was one of the pilots selected to attack the German fleet ( Wilhelmshaven, present - day Lower Saxony, Germany ).

Great book and very well written about the wartime experiences of probably the greatest bomber pilot to ever live. Due to the secrecy surrounding the weapon, Gibson uses a lot of pseudonyms to thinly disguise names and code words. We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. This article includes a list of references, related reading, or external links, but its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations. On the 75th anniversary of Gibson's death, September 19th 2019, Greenhill Books released a new illustrated edition of the book. Not sure what was distracting me on my first listen but now I realize that Gibson provides an engaging month by month, hands-on view of how Britain's bomber war changed over the course of the war.
