Description

Under its unassuming “sleeper” looks, the Keydous NJ80-AP hides flexible wireless, high-quality parts, and an absolutely incredible typing feel, all for a surprisingly low price. The only downside is its janky software.

The operation method of Bluetooth pairing :(first turn on the power switch at the bottom of the keyboard) On the inside, we have the keyboard wrapped in soft plastic. If you were hoping to get some PE foam to mod your keyboard with, you might be disappointed. Under the keyboard there are alternative keycaps, for you to turn the Keydous NJ80 into a Mac keyboard, or just change up the style with different colored keycaps. Previously, I saw some people mentioning that they got their Keydous NJ80 with a second volume knob, but I didn’t get one with mine. Hold down the FN+1 key for 3 seconds. The keyboard enters the pairing state, and the digit 1 indicator blinks at short intervals.

FN+M (hold down for 2 seconds, and blink for 2 to enter, and blink for 1 to exit) = Enter MAC mode (switch Alt and Win, right Alt to win, right CTRL to Alt)

Use the original charging cable to connect the USB port of the computer for charging, and the charging current should be less than 1A.

Keydous NJ80 Specifications

Then again, if you want to go for a completely different switch type, it’s entirely possible as the NJ80 is fully hot-swappable! You can fit any 2-pin switch you want, so the customization potential of this keyboard is very good. Stabilizers

Two things immediately stood out when I started using the NJ80-AP. First, the V key is slightly raised compared to the other keys. Initially, I thought this would be an issue while typing, but it mostly hasn’t been an issue at all. My nails occasionally hit it when I go for the B key and cause an extra keystroke, but this is rare. Aside from that, I’ve had no issues with it, though I’m also not sure what the point of it being slightly raised is either. At first, I thought maybe it was to help find positioning without looking. However, in practice, this didn’t seem helpful at all. It might be due to my typing habits, but I tend to look for the notches on the F and J keys to find positioning. This might be useful for some people, but at least it wasn’t a real hindrance either. Keydous did a pretty good job with the keycaps, with sharp, precisely-positioned legends. These are Dye-subbed PBT keycaps, which are actually doing the RGB underneath an injustice. Yes, the Keydous NJ80 does have RGB LEDs, but as the board is South-facing, the LEDs won’t do that great a job of illuminating your regular shine-through keycaps, which often have the legends on the upper portion of the keycaps. The original charging cable must be used to connect the USB port of the computer for charging, and the charging current should be less than 1A.While the PBT keycaps on the NJ80 are great, it doesn’t allow for any RGB shine-through if that’s your jam. The steel plate however does reflect the RGB well, resulting in an even glow throughout the keyboard. Switches CUSTOMIZABILITY] Hot swappable PCB allows to try or combine different switches without soldering to find the unique typing feel you want it to feel like. F12 button for battery indicator: low battery for red breath. When charged, it breathes green; when full, it turns to its original color. Keydous has also included a metal plate, with plate-mounted switches, it would be nice to have gasket mounting, but it is understably absent at this price point. Connectivity Tương thích: Windows / MacOS / Linux (Có Driver riêng để chỉnh LED / Macro / Update firmware / Keymap)

FN + | = switch lamp effect mode (light waves, ripples, raindrops, serpentine, follow, aggregation, sine wave, Colorful springs, flowers, laser, peaks, and turns, colorful vertical and horizontal, breathing, neon) It is not necessary to insert and remove the shaft body with great force. When you find that the shaft body needs great force, it may be misaligned, please stop the operation, otherwise the hot plug base will be damaged, or the solder pad will fall off and the PCB will be directly discarded. If you want to factory reset the NJ80, you can do so by pressing and holding Esc, Left Ctrl, F12, and the right arrow key for 3 seconds. Mac Compatibility RGB settings is not the greatest we have seen either. No per-key RGB settings are available, but you get quite a number of common RGB effects that you will find with most gaming keyboards in the market. One thing worth noting is the terrible translation and typos you will find along the way, like Converage. Overall, not the best software. Customization options are really limited, but it should be good enough if you are coming from mainstream mechanical keyboards. Keydous NJ80-AP design On the software side, the NJ80 uses Keydous’ proprietary software for all customization features. You are able to remap the main key layer along with one extra layer, however, your options on remapping are pretty limited; plus, there are no media keys. Moreover, you can record macros—which is always nice to see. So I am not exactly sure when this update was released, but I was tinkering about with the Keydous NJ80’s foam and stabilizers, then decided to update the drivers and firmware. So apparently an update was pushed that now allows you to edit the Fn layer. The keys you see in red are the keys that can’t be edited, so it’s quite a bummer that you can’t edit Fn + knob functions… But for the rest, you can edit, and I do think that this allows for some sweet macro capabilities, if you are into that sort of thing. For me, I am just going to add more media controls to the row below the knob. Sweet, sweet typing
