My last problem was the point of view the story was told in. My least favorite POV is first person, however many young adult novels are told in first person and I barely notice it. In this book, the POV distracted me from the story throughout the entire book. The narrative should not distract me from the story, it should be invisible, helping me place myself in this world, in this person’s shoes, without getting in my way. It was frustrating that this was not the case. Perhaps a mix of first person and third person would have been better.

Gregson constantly created vivid imagery inside my head- with the Skylands, ships, and gargantuans. Despite being so reminiscent (in the best way possible) of all the previously mentioned titles, Sky’s End was fresh and exciting. The West End premiere of the new British musical Standing at the Sky's Edge has set its initial casting, with performances beginning at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 8 February 2024. Exiled to live as a Low, sixteen-year-old Conrad refuses to become heir to his murderous uncle. But Meritocracy is a harsh and unforgiving rule on the floating island of Holmstead, and when his ailing mother is killed by monstrous gorgantauns, Conrad cuts a deal to save the only family he has left. To rescue his sister from his uncle’s clutches, Conrad must enter the Selection of the Twelve Trades.

My goodness did this book keep you breathless. It was non-stop action straight out of the gate. Each chapter was filled to the brim with something exciting and/or terrifying. I had to stop and take a minute to rest after almost every chapter. The plot never slowed down, it was fantastic! You can immediately sense the type of outrageous atmosphere that Cassiel is immersed in. Young's ability to perceive this tension, stress, fear, loyalty, and determination was incredibly palpable. My poor heart just would not stop beating frantically for 90% of this book.

I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review and opinion. Thank you NetGalley and author Marc Gregson for the opportunity to read this debut novel. For Sky TV/Sky Q, HD, Sky+, Sky Multiscreen, Sky Q experience and Streaming TV (Sky Glass or Sky Stream): To end your contract, you’ll need to give us at least 31 days’ notice, which can’t end before your minimum term finishes. The early termination charges below are only payable if we end the relevant TV contract within your minimum term because you’ve breached your terms and conditions. XL bullies across the country also need to be neutered by February - something which is putting a lot of strain on rescue charities. But bad points aside, nothing could stop me from genuinely enjoying this book. It was, from start to finish, unbelievably entertaining, in a guilty pleasure kind of way. This always seemed to be veering into sci-fi erotica, instead of YA, which was confusing, but okay. This book really surprised me because I hated the beginning. It didn't catch me off the bat, the writing felt weird, and the naming structure for the world... high, medium, low? It felt like everything was a place holder. You cancel Sky TV and Sky Talk. Your TV is out of minimum term but Sky Talk is in minimum term and you're not moving to another provider). Early Termination Charges are due for Sky Talk.

The plot and action really just made this book for me. My heart was constantly racing, and I just wanted to know what would happen next. I enjoyed how the story unfolded, and there were several plot twists that I didn't really expect, and I look for the plot twists, so that's saying something. From the very beginning, when he was first introduced, I never trusted Damien King based on everything Cassiel told us about him, yet she did not trust him at all. I also do not understand her loyalty to him after having gone on only one date and sharing one kiss and barely knowing him as anything but her brother’s friend who she spoke with sometimes. I don’t understand her feelings of being “torn between” when there was no real established relationship for her to feel that way and plenty of reason for her to mistrust him. Cassiel was such a big win for me. I loved her character. She's insanely feisty and sarcastic. She's extremely head strong and determined. She's also SUPER stubborn. She trusts some people too easily, she doesn't trust others enough. When she puts her mind to something, she WILL do it. Even if it isn't the best decision. She drove me nuts in this regard but I wouldn't have had her any other way. She made SKY'S END such an amazing story to read. I'll warn you, she's got a mouth on her. But honestly, it's what made Cassiel Cassiel. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review. Plummet into a kill-or-be-killed competition where a scrappy underdog hell-bent on revenge must claw his way to the top in this thrilling YA fantasy debut

However, Cassiel wants nothing more than to stay aboard her ship and continue her training with ESE (Earth Space Exploration) and catch the occasional glimpse of her missing brother's hunky bestie, King. Well, that and find her missing brother. A Sky spokesperson said the company had recently signed an extension with its satellite provider to keep the service on air for the next decade, while customers are still welcome to sign up to Sky to use its Sky Q satellite box. As a result, vets "face the prospect of being asked to put to sleep healthy dogs whose behaviour poses no risk", the RSPCA said. I was a little hesitant to read this book because it did remind me of that one Science-Fiction-Novel-About-Aliens-But-Not-Really-About-Aliens-That-I-Enjoy-So-Much but I liked the fact that Young didn’t make it exactly the same as the SFNAABNRAATIESM, since there were some difference that didn’t end up grinding my gears as much. There were plenty of issues concerning gender roles, and I think the author, by the end of it, had the characters make the right decisions.

Sky does not consider that its standalone pay-TV services fall within the definition of an electronic communications service and maintains it is not required to comply with GC 1.10 for such services. One of the problems that has affected internet delivery of live television channels is the lag, or delay, on broadcasts. Although this does not matter for entertainment shows, this is a problem for sports content if viewers hear their neighbours celebrating a goal before it appears on their screen. Sky said the current lag is about 30 seconds but its technology teams are working to reduce this. Having carefully considered Sky’s representations in response to the Notification issued under Section 96A of the Communications Act 2003 on 14 May 2021 (see below), Ofcom has concluded that where Sky’s pay TV services rely on digital satellite transmission, Sky provides a public electronic communications service to its customers. As such, Sky is a ‘regulated provider’ within the meaning of General Conditions C1.21 to C1.29 and it is obliged to send end-of-contract notifications to its customers of those pay TV services. There is other immaturity. The 'alien sociologist' doctor is named Dr. Xeno (get it?), the love interest and hottest guy in school is named King, and the instructor is Lt. Lazarus. The students have generic, very Americanized names like Todd Meyers or Daria Preston. You get the idea. It's high school in space (even though the protagonist is supposed to be 21). To rescue his sister from his uncle's clutches, Conrad must enter the Selection of the Twelve Trades.

Need Help?

Fueled by the author’s own affection for astrophysics, “Sky’s End” mixes real scientific theories with gripping action, fantasy, romance and self-discovery. The journalist in Young asks the deeper questions to make the characters and story, through fiction, real to life. There was almost always a lot going on. But, even if there wasn't, Cassiel's voice, her narration, was so provocative, it was beyond entertaining. I loved her take-no-bullshit attitude about everything. She was a very, very well-written, believable, and personable character. When Cassiel’s manipulated into a perilous mission, she encounters a warrior species bred to protect the universe from an even greater threat. And she learns that her secret visions are at the heart of it all.
