Ziggy recently reclaimed most of the publishing rights to his music from EMI, giving him a strong sense of fulfillment in light of the "independent spirit of what my father dreamed of. Filled with photographs from the Marley family archives, the oversize Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend has been put together by son Ziggy to honor what would be the reggae legend’s 75th birthday.

His dream career as a photojournalist became reality when he joined the SoHo Weekly News , a downtown New York City newspaper, in 1973. Swapping verses with his friend, actor Woody Harrelson, the two envision "hemp fields growing wild and free" and the far-reaching effects of legalization benefiting small farmers and a myriad of others. After two decades as the driving creative force behind The Melody Makers, Ziggy's first solo tour came in Summer 2002, on the 23-city Jeep World Outside Festival, joining such artists as Sheryl Crow, Train and O.

Curated by Ziggy Marley in celebration of his father’s 75th birthday, Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend includes more than 150 photographs that pay homage to one of reggae’s most influential figures. Marley’s contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide, and made him a global figure in popular culture to this day. Focusing on the last decade of his life - the period of his greatest worldwide fame - and with excerpts from unpublished interviews and prophetic quotes alongside the images, this is a definitive portrait of one of the great artists of the twentieth century, made by those who knew him best.

Drawing exclusively on photos in the Marley family archives, the book mixes the iconic and the intimate, bringing together striking images of Marley as a performer onstage with unseen glimpses into his creative process in and out of the studio and his family life in Jamaica. Additionally, a group of themed tribute shows, "Tuff Gong Worldwide and Ziggy Marley Salute the Legends of Reggae," is planned for various Southern California venues, including the Hollywood Bowl. Marley also ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide.

A connection formed between the three MCs and the young photographer, which has lasted throughout their careers. Over the course of his career, Marley became known as a Rastafari icon, and he infused his music with a sense of spirituality. Which is why, perhaps, there's a wisp of irony in naming his upcoming album Wild and Free, given not only the focused writing and recording of his fourth solo studio album, but also Ziggy's concurrent involvement in an ambitious tour stretching through this spring and summer, as well as other projects in the realm of publishing and filmmaking. This is Marley when his Uprising tour hit Italy and he played to a record-breaking 100,000 people in Milano’s Stadio Meazza.

SoHo Weekly News folded in 1982, and Tannenbaum went on to become an award-winning photojournalist, with work published in such major international magazines such as Time, Life, Newsweek, Paris Match and Stern.
