Description

As this Kettle is a Breville, you know it’s going to last a long time (mine has been going for 5+ years without any issues). One of my concerns with the Kogan and Kmart kettle is the build quality and I wouldn’t expect them to last very long. Keep Warm – You can set the kettle to stay warm. Great if you’re making drinks over a longer period. Wi-Fi - For the sake of this list, “smart” means “programmable”. But the fact that it’s programmable doesn’t necessarily indicate that an electric smart kettle can be operated via your smartphone with a compatible app or Bluetooth. Some can be connected to the phone and some can’t. Even if a kettle does offer remote control, this is one of those smart features that may not really be useful as you will rarely turn on the kettle remotely and certainly not without putting water in it first. If you need to walk to the kettle to fill it with water, the use of connectivity kind of becomes redundant. The Appkettle doesn’t have any voice assistant support such as Alexa or Google Home which is a major downside for me. However, you can still create schedules if you want boiling water waiting for you when you wake up or get home from work.

Keep warm function - Drip coffee makers have had this function for decades but it’s only recently made its way into the feature set of most electric kettles. The ability of a kettle to maintain water at a specific temperature is a great feature to have if you’re having friends over for tea and you don’t want to keep reheating the water every time someone needs their cup topped up. Different smart kettles will keep water at a specific temp for different times, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The best smart kettles will allow you to program precisely how long you want to keep the water at the desired temperature. When looking at smart kettles, we had some pretty good ideas of what to look for. Of course, smart features such as Bluetooth connectivity and the use of apps are desirable, but the main purpose of the kettle is to reliably and consistently heat water. Older models are only capable of boiling water while smart kettles do this plus allow you to choose different temperatures for different types of tea. The new wave of smart kettles is all about convenience and we chose the ones that would make getting the perfect cup of coffee or tea easy. How We Tested The kettle itself has a stunning design. It is finished in brushed stainless steel that looks great on your kitchen counter. It has viewing windows on both sides so you can easily see what’s going on whether you are left or right handed. In the app, you can choose the temperature of the water, this is ideal if you prefer hot chocolates or green tea which don’t require the water to reach boiling point. If you don’t want to use IFTTT, it is also compatible with Alexa and Google Home. Just speak a command and the kettle gets to work. Flaws But Not Deal Breakers These types of kettles are great for people who have mobility issues. Rather than having to constantly get up and down and walk to the kitchen to turn the kettle on, they can do this from their phone or via voice control. New parents benefit from them too, as when they make up a formula bottle they need to boil the water to 100°C and then let it cool to 70°C. A smart kettle can do both and keep the temperature at 70°C. This can save a lot of time and stress. It’s easy to get tied up in technical side of things with smart products, but don’t forget the basics when choosing the best smart kettle for your home. A good kettle should have a glass ‘window’ that lets you see how much water is in there. Some of the better ones have a double window that lets you see in both sides. As long as there’s water in the kettle, you’ll wake up or come home to hot water. 3. How do I set up my smart kettle? Design – Of course, you’ll want your smart kettle to blend in with your kitchen so the design is important. Look out for kettles with stainless steel or chrome finishes for a premium look. Having a water meter on the front can also improve the functionality of the kettle for those using it without an app.

Faulty/defective products after 14 days. (excluding all plasma LCD & LED televisions larger than 32-inch as well as all large appliances) If you’re looking for a variable temperature controlled kettle and don’t really care about connectivity features, than your best bet is to go with the Breville Smart Kettle. Another nice feature is the keep warm setting. If you don’t want to use all the water immediately, simply press the keep warm button and the kettle will hold the water at the set temperature for 20 minutes. Sometimes the first thing we do when we get out of bed in the morning or arrive home from a long journey or work is to head into the kitchen to put the kettle on. With the iKettle you can start boiling your kettle from anywhere in the house via your Smartphone or tablet without even setting foot into the kitchen. Using the iKettle app you will save up to two days a year by pre-boiling your kettle saving you up to five minutes at a time. The iKettle is smart, it will tell you when your hot water is ready to pour, remind you to refill and tell you when the kettle is empty. If you are always looking for new additions to your smart home network, the third generation of the popular Smarter iKettle is a good choice.

Smart home tech is something a lot of appliance brands now offer, so if you’re someone who loves a bit of tech, a smart kettle could be a great investment. How do I clean my smart kettle? According to Paul, 'People who love smart tech, already own a smart speaker or two, can appreciate the little conveniences smart homes bring, and can justify the cost' might find a smart kettle useful. The main flaw is the tedious setup. A lot of customers had trouble connecting it to their networks and smart home systems. But once you have set it up, it’s easy to use. Should You Buy it? This does mean there's no companion app, which won't be ideal for some users, but you can control options such as the temperature, or select pre-sets for different types of tea all from within the Alexa app. There are 15 different temperatures to choose from. How to choose a smart kettle Finally, we have the Xiaomi Mi Kettle. This is very different from the iKettle in terms of how it works as it puts a huge emphasis on it’s keep-warm function. The kettle will boil your water to a set temperature and maintain that temperature for a set period of time.

Your smartphone. If it comes with an app, is it compatible with your smartphone and operating system?

Different teas require you to heat the water at different temperatures to ensure the tea isn’t burnt. So whether you’re boiling your kettle for a herbal tea or cup of coffee, the ikettle will take care of everything for you.Like many smart devices, it leans heavily on novelty value' he said, 'but firing up your kettle on a timer, or without having to get off the sofa, is the sort of thing you can easily get used to.' Another nice feature in the app is the energy consumption tab which provides statistics about how much power your kettle uses and how much it has cost you. Setting it up is easy. It only takes a few minutes to connect it to your WiFi network and start controlling it using your phone. There aren't that many app-connected kettles on the market, still, but if you're trying to choose between them, here are some questions to help you figure things out.
