Rather, I felt that it was a disappointment because the outlines of a great story were evident, but just sketched in black and white. Here the lead characters embody the drama and conflict of the time, not all the English are perfect and not all the French are evil, but we are allowed to be committed to a solid patriotic sympathy for medieval England which does not descend into jingoism, for which thank you.

I just have a soft spot for the one who needs redemption and doesn't know how to accept it, who would rather hurl himself against a wall of self-atonement until he falls down and admits he can't climb the wall. And I finally concluded that the author had made the right choice in that loss, for the impact it made on Will. The continuing story began by “The Wood’s Edge”, “A Flight of Arrows” follows Anna and Two Hawks’ struggle to find acceptance for their love in a prejudiced world, and the Oneida and Aubrey families’ pursuit of a lost son and brother as war tensions mount and sides are chosen. As a fan of both historical fiction and also archery it was a given that i would need to read this book, but also because i’m an archer there was a risk i could pull apart the books inaccuracies, i’m so glad to say i didn’t find any issues, and if there were any i missed it was because i was so utterly absorbed in the book.As the army marches on towards its destiny, at the awesome scenes of the Battle of Crécy, Simon will uncover a conspiracy that goes to the heart of the warring nations. The trees from which this wood could be obtained should be older than 10 years and cut down during its period of dormancy (winter). The collection of arrows resides within the Stone Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The investigation is doubly difficult as the English raiders are setting fires and looting as they go.

The arrows are all slightly barrelled, that is they taper towards the ends and have a slight bulge in the center, somewhat like a wooden barrel. A hugely absorbing mystery set in Normandy during the Hundred Years War, with intrigue and battles a plenty. He puts us on His back and He carries us and shields our eyes and hearts from that which would destroy our souls.

B. Hanley, author of the Mediaeval Mysteries series'Espionage, treachery and long-buried sins come to the fore in the blood-stained fields of fourteenth-century Normandy. Not everyone gets happily rescued and reunited, but the loss is not done to shock or devastate readers. This is a beautiful, masterfully woven story of two completely different worlds colliding together because of the sin of one man. For the best are those with three feathers, and of these there are two sorts; that is to say, the hollow and the solid. Being constructed from conifer wood, they are all very straight and made to a high level of consistency. These arrows are the subject of study in Paul E Klopsteg’s Book “Turkish Archery and the Composite Bow”.Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the history, and learning a bit more about the times and the background to the war; I just wish it had gripped me more somewhat. This led to an arms race of sorts, with bowyers creating more powerful bows, and archers requiring more strength to pull them. This book was a real disappointment and I struggled to get to the end, although it does improve considerably in the last section. Sequel to The Wood's Edge, this book is set in 1770's New York and is a chronicle of two families--and a crime that both unites and keeps them apart.
