Description

A cognitive science programme allows you to combine informatics with a range of courses from psychology, linguistics, philosophy and neuroscience. To give you an idea of what you will study on this programme, we publish the latest available information. However, please note this may not be for your year of entry, but for a different academic year. To progress from Year 3 to Year 4 of the Bachelor's Honours degrees, you must achieve an overall mark in third year of 40 or more and pass at least 80 credits of courses at level 9 or 10 at the first attempt. In the MInf degree, in addition to regular taught courses, you will undertake a substantial independent research project

For unconditional progression to Year 3 of an Informatics Honours programme, the required minimum number of credits is 240 and you must also pass all required Year 1 and 2 courses on your degree programme. For BSc Cognitive Science students only, you must also achieve an average of 50% at the first attempt across year 2 PPLS courses taken for this degree. UG2 deferred progression after the May exam dietSQA: Highers: Mathematics at A. Higher Applications of Mathematics is not accepted in place of Higher Mathematics. Advanced Higher Mathematics is recommended. Your Mathematics qualifications must have been achieved no more than two academic years prior to entry. National 5s: English at C. No one knows what it is like to study here more than the students themselves. You can read about our students’ experience and follow us on social media to learn more about studying in the School of Informatics. If you have not passed INF1A and/or INF1B: you will not be allowed to progress to Year 2. If you are permitted to continue at the University, you must repeat Year 1 and make up the missing credits. You will be invited to a meeting with the School Progression Officer to discuss whether this programme is right for you, and if so which courses must be repeated. The School of Informatics does not accept applications for second year entry to our programmes. Year 2

Follow the individual degree links below to see more information including fees and funding, what you will study and entry requirements. Our single subject Bachelor's degrees Other industries and professions that rely heavily on computing systems and are potential employers for graduates include: You will gain a range of experience across all areas of informatics and be able to study your chosen specialist area, in-depth, at masters level. Areas of study An introduction to concepts of programming and computation, using the Haskell functional programming language, finite-state machines and propositional logic. Introduction to Object Orientated Programming (20 credits) Cognitive Science students may apply for the degree in either School and choose courses from both allowing them to combine the study of core computing and human science subjects of their choice of specialisation.Any student who is missing credits after the May diet will receive a "deferred" progression decision in June. You must attempt the August assessment for any course you have not passed. After the August diet your progression status will reconsidered by the progression board. It focuses on abilities such as reasoning, perception, memory, awareness, emotion, attention, judgment, motor control and language use.

You will build on Year 1, covering more advanced programming and data structures, together with the related mathematics and broader professional and societal issues.

Your studies will become more focused and you will have more choice in selecting specialised courses. We offer a range of options across all areas of informatics. In the fourth year, you take MInf Project (Part 1) and a further 80 points of courses typically at level 10.
