Description

Once a coin becomes heavily worn, the number of recognizable features standing out adds to value. Legends separated from the rim is a plus. A bold date is important. A technical grade of Good combined with pleasing eye appeal is strong for the grade. Obverse and reverse varieties exist for the 1913 dated issues. We are indebted to Declan Magee and Numista member Sjoelund for the image below indicating the differences. Still, the most valuable of these are the 1974 and 1975 uncirculated five pence coins, worth €6.00. Ten pence Values in the table above are expressed in GBP. They are based on evaluations by Numista users and sales realized on Internet platforms. They serve as an indication only; they are not intended to be relied upon for buying, selling or exchanging. Numista does not buy or sell coins or banknotes.

fine condition: €25.00; very fine condition: €200.00; extra fine condition: €450.00; uncirculated: €850.00 The 1928-D penny, from the Denver mint, is much scarcer than its Philadelphia-minted sibling. It is relatively scarce, as well. Frequencies show the percentage of Numista users who own each year or variety among all the users who own this coin. Since some users own several versions, the sum may be greater than 100%. Get this coin fine condition: €2.00; very fine condition: €6.00; extra fine condition: €12.00; uncirculated: €25.00TIP: Whatever you do, don’t clean your coins, no matter how dirty they look! Cleaning a coin will not increase its value. Instead… it will actually slash its value by 50% or more.

Two obverse varieties exist for the 1911 dated issues. We are indebted to Declan Magee and Numista member Sjoelund for the image below indicating the differences. When it comes to the rarity of older coins it’s worth looking at the mintage figures to understand how many of the coins were made, as well as whether the coin was in circulation or not. In 1913 the obverse changed slightly, with the lower stop of the colon between GRA BRITT, originally the upright of the E almost parallel with that of the P in PENNY, and the second as for 1906 with the E more None of these were ever released to the public, only directly from the mint to collectors in BU (“Brilliant Uncirculated”) sets, but a few have turned up over the years. Very fine condition: €25.00; extra fine condition: €50.00; uncirculated: €100.00 Due to the low demand for penny coins, there were no pennies issued for circulation in 1933. Instead, around 6 or 7 pennies were issued this year to be buried under the stones of new buildings.

Hair at the top of Lincoln's head is mostly flat. Minor waves of hair have merged leaving only major details separated. The Heaton Mint produced pennies in the years 1912, 1918 and 1919 and these pennies are inscribed with an H mark to the left of the date. Furthermore, in 1918 and 1919 some pennies were produced at Kings Norton Metal Co. LTD which had the hallmark KN to the left of the date. Pennies with the hallmark KN are considered to be much rare. Grade is a definition used by collectors when describing the condition of a coin. Grades listed on the chart range from Good (heavily worn penny) to Uncirculated (no wear). Specific areas are inspected to judge condition. The regular Irish one-pound coins for each year were inconsistent, as an undetermined number did not fully complete the engrailing process for the edge. These are slightly more valuable. The design of the Irish five pence coin changed in 1992: its diameter became smaller, and the design of the bull improved and changed directions.Striking of pennies for circulation restarted in 1961, and ran through in enormous numbers to 1967. Good Grade: Extensive wear, creating large areas of flatness, is graded Good condition. Within the central area, all contours of Lincoln's face are worn to one smooth surface. In terms of metal composition, the proportion of copper, zinc and tin was altered in 1926 in an attempt to combat ghosting. Ghosting is a term used for the effect caused when the amount of metal removed by the portrait is greater than that of the reverse design and causes a ‘halo-like’ effect around the design. A lot of people show me photos of Lincoln pennies that don’t show the letters “VDB.” These are the initials of Lincoln cent designer Victor David Brenner — who designed the Lincoln cent in 1909.
