Grade is a definition used by collectors when describing the condition of a coin. Grades listed on the chart range from Good (heavily worn penny) to Uncirculated (no wear). Specific areas are inspected to judge condition. The regular Irish one-pound coins for each year were inconsistent, as an undetermined number did not fully complete the engrailing process for the edge. These are slightly more valuable. A lot of people show me photos of Lincoln pennies that don’t show the letters “VDB.” These are the initials of Lincoln cent designer Victor David Brenner — who designed the Lincoln cent in 1909.
