There is an exceptionally brave 89 year old woman named Lens, who was a friend of Bens from Once We Were Brothers. This book was based partly on a real life survivor of the holocaust who told her tale to the author. The family was Polish speaking rather than Yiddish speaking, and was very much integrated into Polish society.

I liked that Lena tells her story of the years during the Holocaust and what she went through to survive. Interestingly, in the Acknowledgment section at the end, the author mentions that Lena's story is based on a true story, while the contemporary story is entirely fictitious. So I joined the Public Speaking Society, the people are great and they have great socials but it was so scary.
