Description

With 32 slots to fill, the Hydrasynth's matrix is the tool for programming the interaction with those expressive controllers. It can reach parts of the synth not always open to modulation, such as the effects, arpeggiator parameters, envelope stages and even the levels of other slots, with only a few omissions as of the current firmware (such as Glide and envelope shapes). Modal’s latest board includes all the great features of the Argon 8 but with a 61-note keyboard. Features include 120 wavetables, 32 static wavetable modifiers, 32 high-resolution wavetable oscillators, eight types of oscillator modifier and four filter types. Two filters can be found on the ASM Hydrasynth Desktop with the first offering 11 different filter models for a wide variety of sonic options.

Buy the ASM Hydrasynth Desktop synth from PMT Online now and begin a musical journey with the Hydrasynth as your passport. Hydrasynth Firmware Update For the uninitiated poly aftertouch allows you to play a chord and add modulation to one (or multiple) notes in the chord. This is incredible because you can achieve effects played by one hand that can sound like a melody and accompaniment in one – all the while your other hand is free). The 12dB and 24dB ladder filters are smooth and effective; they're accompanied by bass-compensated versions (Fat12 and Fat24) that don't sacrifice their bottom end to high resonance. And while you're unlikely to mistake the MS20 filters for the real thing, they offer worthy alternate responses. I don't know how accurate the Threeler filters are, but I liked the band-pass mode in particular; some of its cutoff and resonance combinations give strange, buzzy but interesting results. Ashun Sound Machines introduces Hydrasynth, the eight-voice polyphonic wave-morphing synthesizer with three oscillators per voice, seemingly endless amount of modulation options, and many other unique features such as Mutators. Besides traditional analog modeling, oscillators 1 and 2 sport a Wavescanning feature, which allows you to smoothly scan through hundreds of waveshapes at will. Mutators open up potential for ever more extreme sound shaping with PWM, FM, and more. Then there are two filters: a twelve algorithm multimode, and a classic state-variable 12dB/oct, which can be routed in parallel, and in series. Hydrasynth also has a ton of effects, from Delays to Reverbs to Flangers, and much more.

Hydrasynth Firmware Update

Getting around isn't as easy as it might be because there's no method of going directly to a particular location. Initially, you change patches by spinning the encoder or pressing the L/R arrows, holding Shift to jump in 10s. To speed things along you can define 32 'Favorite' patches which serve as more efficient entry points. Additionally, you can browse by name and category, but there are no User categories. Designing sounds has never been so open and with the musical potential of the Hydrasynth, both you and your audience will be inspired by its performance.

Hydrasynth Desktop | Ashun Sound Machines

Hydrasynth is a great end user product and built better than anything else I own in the high-end synth offerings. It is disappointing how other well established synth manufactures have compromised the integrity of their product using light weight plastic construction materials that wont hold up as good as the Hydrasynth in constant transport. With an advanced wavetable synthesis engine, 3 Oscillators, dual Wave Mutants, and 2 filters that can be configured in series or parallel, the tone generating capabilities are unmatched.

Hydrasynth 2.0 Firmware Update

Three oscillators are on board the ASM Hydrasynth Desktop and give you the choice of 219 single cycle waveforms. As it pertains to the Hordijk article, let us briefly compare equal temperament tuning with just intonation. In Western music history, 12 tone equal temperament (12-TET for short) has been the predominant tuning system since the European classical period, as composers were beginning to be more adventurous with their harmonic progressions. 12-TET allows for the frequency of all notes in the chromatic scale to have an equal relationship with each other, meaning that sequences of chords will sound consistent regardless of which key they were played in, eliminating the need to retune an instrument between performances. This contrasts with practices in the Baroque period as well as numerous traditions in Eastern music, where note relationships were defined in just ratios around a specific tonal center. Filter 2: 12 dB (SEM-style) per octave, includes Continuous Sweep from lowpass, bandpass, up to highpass) While we are talking performance controls, let's look at the unique paddle-style pitch and mod wheels. The paddles are clever and add a more nuanced method of moving the wheels. They also light up in several rather lovely colours along with the big selector wheel, and you can customise this when saving your patches.

ASM Hydrasynth Virtual Analog Wave-Morphing Desktop Module

You can set the levels and pan the input source with the mixer. A balance control allows you to adjust the amount of signal you route to each filter from each source. It's fast and logical: you select a module to work on and tweak the parameters with LED-ringed encoders. Indeed, it's possible to get so fixated on the encoders you entirely forget the dedicated controls. Incidentally, all controls send and respond to NRPNs, rather than the lower-resolution CCs. The resulting parameter changes are smooth and not constrained to 128 possible values. However, NRPNs aren't a perfect fit for step sequencing or generic controller duties, for example, while some expected CCs are ignored, such as CC7 (volume). The tone generation capability is the heart of any synthesizer, and the 3 Hydrasynth oscillators are alive with potential. The problem about buying a machine like this is that it raises the bar so high that you need to go to Iridium/Kyra territory to be impressed. You’ll also discover linear FM within the 'mutants' and some unique types of pulse-width modulation. Furthermore, there are five (looping) envelopes per-voice, an amp module, two filter modules, five LFOs, reverb and delay modules, plus pre and post effects. With the Hydrasynth Desktop, you have the same great sound engine found in the Hydrasynth Keyboard but without the keyboard. Extremely expressive and with multiple pad layouts to choose from along with multiple scales, playing the Hydrasynth Desktop is fun, unique and inspiring. Oscillation and Mutation It really is an all purpose tool and it does not surprise me why it has received the praise that has been heaped upon it since it's launch late last year.

Hydrasynth Digital Polyphonic Desktop Synthesizer ASM Hydrasynth Digital Polyphonic Desktop Synthesizer

As a debut synth from a new company, the Hydra is hugely impressive. This is not easy to achieve on the first throw! In terms of build quality, looks, features, sound – not to mention affordability – the Hydrasynth has it all.

Furthermore, all of the Hydrasynth's LFOs feature delay, fade in, 3 triggering modes, smoothing, start phase and one shot modes allowing them to act as envelopes and BPM sync. While it's great to have a powerful synthesizer that you can keep out of the way, sometimes you want to actually perform with it.
