Professor Igor Karkaroff (d. 24 June – 31 July 1996) [2] was a wizard and Headmaster of Durmstrang Institute. During the First Wizarding War, he was a Death Eater who served Lord Voldemort. After being captured and briefly imprisoned in Azkaban following his master's defeat, Karkaroff turned in several of his fellow Death Eaters to the Wizengamot in exchange for his crimes being pardoned. It is evident that Viktor Krum was very good at dueling. This is something that he did while it’s cool, especially to those who thought it would be funny to use the symbol of Gerald Grindelwald, and it was something he threatened to do at Bill’s wedding when he saw Xenophilius Lovegood wearing the same symbol. However, Rita Skeeter, an unregistered Animagus, eavesdropped on their conversation and wrote an article that painted Hermione as toying with both Viktor's affections and Harry Potter's. This, as well as Hermione's tendency to talk about her friend, led Viktor to seek out Harry, who confirmed that he and Hermione were just friends [10]. During a confrontation with Ron, Ginny claimed that Viktor and Hermione kissed at some point during this period, whether that is true or if Ginny was just trying to get under Ron's skin is unknown. She never did visit him in Bulgaria, although she did write to him often. [12] Quidditch: Viktor was an incredibly skilled flyer and played Seeker for the Bulgarian National Quidditch team by the age of seventeen. He was said to be one of the best seekers in the world, despite his young age. Also, in several Slavic languages such as Russian 'kar' is an onomatopoeia word, which represents the sound crows make (an equivalent to English ' caw'). Being in second place, Krum enters the Third Task maze after Harry and Cedric. Harry finds him performing the Cruciatus Curse on Cedric, Stuns him, and signals that he is out of the competition. It turns out later that Krum was being controlled at the time by Barty Crouch Jr. using the Imperius curse. Krum is leaning against the mantelpiece in the room off the Great Hall when Harry enters. He straightens up when Ludo Bagman introduces Harry as the fourth Triwizard champion; his surly face darkens as he surveys Harry. Transfiguration: Viktor had some skill with Transfiguration spells. He partially Transfigured himself into a shark during the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament.How did she know Viktor asked me to visit him over the summer?" — Viktor invites Hermione to spend the summer with him [src] While there is much talk in the seventh book about allegiances and awareness by the wands, it is never meant to be an indication that wands are alive. Like Muggle computers, the fact that a wand behaves in a particular manner may make it seem alive, but it remains inanimate and unthinking. A good indication of this is the way the Elder Wand shows allegiance to Harry; after all, it was not Harry who disarmed Dumbledore, but Draco. However, Harry is now carrying Draco's wand, which had itself transferred its allegiance to Harry when he wrested it from Draco. So the Elder Wand, rather than a specific person, apparently senses the holder of the wand that performed the successful charm as the one to whom it owes allegiance. His skills were such that he was able to evade the likes of Alastor Moody and even Lord Voldemort himself for extended periods of time. [14]

Very little is known about Viktor Krum’s family. We know that his parents were pureblood Wizards also from Bulgaria, and they spoke to him in rapid Bulgarian. They also like to hover in the corners, not draw attention to themselves, and seem to have a constant glare on their face, just like Viktor Krum. We also know that Gellert Grindelwald killed his grandfather while Grindelwald rose to power using dark arts in Bulgaria. In Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, Krum's appearance is much closer to the book's description since the game had been made before the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film. Krum has long, dark brown hair, a curved nose, and a fairly slim build. Since Cedric Diggory also appears in the game, the game probably takes place in the 1993 season, meaning Krum was 17 at the time. Additionally, Krum kisses Hermione in full view of Ron in the LEGO game, while in the books Ron does not find out that the two kissed until almost two years later. Dark Arts: At Durmstrang, he learned how to use dark magic (as it was an academic class there), although he was not a Dark wizard. He was forced to use the Cruciatus Curse on Cedric Diggory under the influence of the Imperius Curse, though it is unknown if he was able to use the curse under normal circumstances, as the Imperius Curse could potentially endow a victim with the skills needed to perform a task.
