I really don’t know how it ended up feeling so sex-focused and surface level, but that was the case. I am 30% of the way into the book and the enemies to lovers just hasn’t been there, it feels more insta love~y. I get a bit annoyed by characters who have to force being childish or difficult just because they can be.

Things don’t feel fake at all to Margo but Beck has a secret to hide and things aren’t as they seem. Her portrayal of the protagonist, in particular, left much to be desired, as it failed to evoke any genuine connection. On the contrary, he’s offering her the role of real assistant and fake fiancée in an attempt to clean up his playboy image… and he was willing to purchase a company to make that happen.

Beck was a lovesick fool but in the best possible way and Margo was the one force capable of bringing the self-made mogul to his knees. The pacing was so much off, she literally saw the guy for the second time, moved into his apartment, got him coffee as his new "assistant" fucked him, drama, the end, in the span of a month. I think a round of editing would’ve done WONDERS for this, as there were lots of grammatical issues, things that were entirely implausible, and relationship development that evolved in a weird way. I love little nods to previous books by an author, and this was such a cute way of telling us that this book is set in the same universe as her other series.
