I hope that going forward each army gets a kit that is designed around Kill Team, as both of these sets are fantastic in how they give you not only a cool unit for 40k, but an entire kill team of different looking operatives for your games of Kill Team! If you’re reading this review, you’ve probably already seen the various Warhammer Community previews of this set, and you already know these miniatures are something special. Obviously, when you compare Octarius to the Kill Team Pariah Nexus Starter Box, it has way more inside. Each player secretly makes a deck of 6 cards for their secondaries, then draw cards two at a time keeping one and discarding the other until they have a final 3 semi-randomised secondaries – again I love this as you will know what is in the deck, but you cannot guarantee what 3 you end up with. Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

It has always been designed to be a fast-paced tabletop game with a focus on creating, curating, and celebrating the unique forces delivered to the gaming board by its players. As each operative has on average 7 wounds each it means you can get some suitably cinematic battles with two rivals playing a game of cat and mouse as one perhaps gets wounded and tries to slink away into cover while their counterpart hunts them down to finish the job. The first thing we need to talk about is the absolutely jam-packed box of miniatures that is the Kill Team Octarius set itself – you get a stack of things inside the heavy box! The miniatures included in the set are some of the best Citadel have ever produced, and will have painters’ jaws dropping with their stunning character and detail. Contains 17 new terrain pieces including ruins, platforms, and scattered refuse for creating your own ramshackle Ork shanty town.It ran to a princely 208 pages, with well over 100 of those taken up with datacards, tactics, name tables, and points values.

Terrain Pieces: Create a ramshackle Ork shanty town with brand new ruins, platforms, and scattered refuse. Other times, I was blessing the movement gauge for allowing me to comfortably measure zig-zagging moves around closely placed terrain, where no tape measure could easily go. This means that if you are suffering from heavy casualties and are heavily outnumbered it could be that your entire force manages to dig in and fire some desperate overwatch as a valiant last stand, which is an interesting balancing mechanic. That does mean that if you so wish you could paint these up in some way – perhaps to mirror the aesthetic of your Kill Team faction of choice? Warhammer Community have already teased us with this roadmap, which promises oodles of Kill Team content over the coming months.I mean, it doesn’t really explain why GW moved away from just using inches on a ruler like absolutely every other one of their games, but whatever. The defender then rolls a number of dice equal to their defence value – this may be more or less dice than the number of times they have been hit too! No, thanks to those Fire Team rules, you’ll probably have to use either the Kill Team provided in the actual launch box, or bite the bullet and commit to the dull Fire Team selection rules which let you play models from only one or two units. Sure, you can take “operatives” with special traits (like a comms guy, for example), but thanks to the new Fire Team rules and the Compendium, you’re still locked to fielding only the models from that one Fire Team.
