Davidia involucrata Baill. | Plants of the World Online | Kew Science". Plants of the World Online . Retrieved 7 August 2022. And speaking of witches, another noteworthy aspect of The Ghost Tree is the fairy tale element intertwined throughout. Smiths Hollow is no ordinary town, and the hidden folklore at its centre definitely adds to the atmospheric setting of the story. When the town’s secrets begin to unfold, Henry’s strength in storytelling really begins to show. If you choose to kill the Ghost in the Tree, you’ll immediately start a fight and get the objective “ Destroy the heart in the tree’s roots.” The Ghost Tree a creepy story with some magical elements, but I think this was more a coming of age story than a scary one. It felt like a Brothers Grimm sort of scary fairy tale with a curse, witches, and several gory murders. The town of Smiths Hollow doesn’t seem to register these murders for longer than a day or two.

You have one last choice here to either go through with the ritual or kill the spirit. If you press on with the ritual, you’ll free the Ghost in the Tree. Answer 2: “I don’t believe you” (Kill the spirit) THE GHOST TREE WILL AN ANCIENT LEGEND WEAVE A YOUNG GIRL’S DESTINY? In a remote mountain village lives Grandmother Atl, a very talented weaver, and her granddaughter, Nemimati. Nemimati wants nothing more than to help her grandmother live a better life, so she convinces her to enter a contest where the winner will receive the title of royal weaver—and get to live in the comfort of the royal palace. Grandmother Atl sends Nemimati and her young friend, Mishtla, to gather the scarce magical beans from which a luminous golden dye can be made. Eventually, the children stop to rest near the ruins of the mysterious palace garden where Goddess Tonantzin’s Ghost Tree of legend fortuitously appears and graciously fills their baskets. However, not until the day of the long awaited contest does Nemimati hear the miraculous tree’s appearance explained. This mythic tale is set in the pre-Columbian era of legendary Toltec emperor Quetzalcoatl. His legend proclaims him a beneficent sovereign who promoted heartfelt personal sacrifice for one another rather than the religious rite of sacrificed hearts practiced by other rulers. It is also stated that he presented his subjects with wealth and all knowledge. We’ll explain each choice and their consequences below. Answer 1: “I’ll help you” (Release the spirit) This isn't really a retelling but it almost feels like it could be...there's even a princess...but you know, she dies (not really a spoiler)...that's pretty much what this author does turns the fairytales on their ass, so to speak. If you've read and liked any of Christina Henry's other books...then you probably will like this one. I haven't found a book by her that I didn't at least like. She tells the story without any extra BS thrown in...which I'm a fan of...although this one had some mother/teen daughter drama in it...but it did have a reason for being there. The narration by Jan Johns was excellently performed, her voice for four-year-old David (my fav character in the book) was so good...she made his personality shine through. Usually, I complain if a book has multiple POV's and only one narrator...but she pulled multiple characters off very well. I don't think I've ever listened to a book narrated by her before...but now I'm definitely a fan of hers. As the youngest son of a noble family now living in genteel poverty, Thomas always knew he would have to make his own way in the world. Unable to follow his brothers to university, instead he joins first the navy and then the army, rising through the ranks, travelling the world. When he is finally able to study law, his extraordinary experiences and abilities propel him to the very top and he becomes Lord Chancellor. Yet he has made a powerful enemy on his voyages, who will hound him and his family to the death – and beyond. Happy new year! I know 2020 was a tough one for everyone but we made it through. Unfortunately the pandemic stopped all appearances after March so I wasn’t able to see as many of you as I would have liked. I’m particularly sorry that my UK tour didn’t go off as planned but I hope to try again when it’s safe for everyone to gather and travel.

The lower portion of the Giant Cove Tree consists of many massive roots, dropping down into the surrounding brine pool. She is the High Priestess of YA Horror, the Goddess of fairy-tales gone dark, and the Villainous Hero of atmospheric tales of all that is sinister and poetic.

Just to clarify, though – this is not a young adult novel; it’s intended for an adult audience (like all of my work). Additionally, if you’ve read ALICE or LOST BOY you may be expecting a reimagining of an existing story – THE GHOST TREE is not a reimagining of any kind.

Summer is flying by, and there are just five short weeks until THE GHOST TREE is released. This book is an homage to all the coming-of-age horror novels I read when I was younger – except all those books featured boys as the protagonists when I longed for more stories about girls.Tad asked me to meet him there,” Miranda said excitedly, ignoring Lauren’s question. “He actually called me today.” Harrison, Lorraine (2012). RHS Latin for gardeners. United Kingdom: Mitchell Beazley. p.224. ISBN 9781845337315. I really enjoyed how uncomplicated this was. There's a small town. There's a curse. There's something brutally murdering people. It's a solid, clean plot. She enjoys running long distances, reading anything she can get her hands on and watching movies with samurai, zombies and/or subtitles in her spare time. She lives in Chicago with her husband and son. In the meantime Lauren, 15 years old, recently lost her father who was brutally killed in the woods just like two girls feels a painful headache and sees visions about how the girls get killed. And she realizes there is something supernatural about the killings of those girls.
